---The next day, (Y/N) walked into the gym with a mixture of nervousness and reluctant amusement. Bokuto had insisted on this “team tour” with boundless enthusiasm, convinced that it would help (Y/N) find their “perfect match.” The idea itself was comically misguided, and yet, there was something endearing about how much he cared.
Bokuto was already waiting for them, practically bouncing with excitement. He grinned as soon as he saw (Y/N), his golden eyes sparking with determination.
“There you are! Ready for the first step of Operation ‘Get to Know the Team’?” he asked, slinging an arm over their shoulder before they could respond.
“Uh, yeah, I guess so,” (Y/N) said, trying to ignore the way their heart skipped a beat at his touch. They glanced around the gym, already seeing some of the team members stretching, and took a deep breath. This was going to be… interesting.
“Alright!” Bokuto clapped his hands together. “First up is Konoha!”
He led them across the court to where Konoha was adjusting his knee pads, completely oblivious to Bokuto’s approaching mission. When he noticed them, Konoha looked up, mildly curious, but not overly concerned.
“Konoha, meet (Y/N)!” Bokuto announced as if this was some grand introduction. “They’re here to… uh, get to know you better! Right, (Y/N)?”
(Y/N) forced a smile, still trying to figure out how to respond. “Um, hi, Konoha.”
Konoha raised an eyebrow, giving them a polite smile before shooting Bokuto a questioning look. “Uh, hey. Are we… supposed to be doing something?”
“Yep!” Bokuto said with absolute confidence, pointing at (Y/N) with exaggerated enthusiasm. “They’re trying to find the best person on the team to… uh, to get closer to. So, you know, I thought maybe you could show off some of your strengths!”
(Y/N) gave Konoha an apologetic look, but Konoha just shrugged, playing along with Bokuto’s excitement. “Alright, well… I’m not sure what to ‘show off,’ but…” He grabbed a nearby volleyball and spun it on his finger with a practiced nonchalance. “I’m a decent server, I guess.”
(Y/N) chuckled at his modesty, but before they could say anything, Bokuto jumped in, practically glowing with enthusiasm. “Decent? Pssh! You’re amazing at it, Konoha! Look at that spin!”
Konoha gave Bokuto a wry smile, clearly amused by his captain’s energy. “Well, I guess that’s one way to put it.”
Bokuto’s eyes gleamed as he looked at (Y/N) expectantly. “See? Isn’t he cool? Konoha’s great, right?”
“Yeah, he is,” (Y/N) agreed, giving Konoha a sincere smile. But even as they spoke, their eyes drifted back to Bokuto, watching the way he animatedly described Konoha’s “skills” with such enthusiasm that he almost looked like he was the one spinning the volleyball.
“Okay, let’s keep going!” Bokuto announced, grabbing (Y/N)’s arm and leading them across the court. “Next up is Yukie!”
They made their way over to where Yukie was organizing the volleyballs near the storage rack. She looked up as they approached, giving them a friendly smile as Bokuto launched into his next “introduction.”
“Yukie! Meet (Y/N)!” Bokuto declared, beaming. “They’re… well, they’re here to learn all about the team. Show them what you got!”
Yukie chuckled softly, glancing at (Y/N) with an understanding smile. “What exactly are you hoping to see?” she asked, clearly picking up on the strange dynamic.
