--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Waking up on a Monday morning is bad enough, but waking up for the first day of school on a Monday morning is excruciatingly painful. Groaning, I drag my sleep deprived body to the bathroom, glancing at my appearance in the mirror. My hair was matted to my face from the drool, and I had bags the size of Wisconsin under my eyes. Grabbing a towel out of the linen closet, I strip down and step into the shower, turning on the refreshing jets of water. Washing the sleep out of my body and hair.Stepping back into my room feeling clean and refreshed I dance over to my closet biting my lip in thought of what I wanted to wear. Choosing the more comfier rout I decided on a pair of new Victoria Secret leggings and a gray off the shoulder sweater, also from Victoria Secret. Sliding my outfit on I go over to my vanity and pull out my makeup caddy, applying a little mascara and lip balm, not wanting to put to much. Deciding to just leave my hair down in a bundle of beach swept waves I slide on my teal colored vans and slinging my bag over my shoulder, barreling down the stairs towards the kitchen.
"Good morning darling" came my dads reply as I walked into the kitchen. "I made you some chocolate chip pancakes before I had to go." he folds his newspaper up and I smile as he kisses my forehead. "Thanks dad, oh and have a good day on your first day back." I throw a smirk in his direction before shoveling in the food my father made me. He chuckles and shakes his head before stepping out of the house. You see, my dad is an FBI agent and he was recently hurt in an attempt to bring down a known gang lord that's been wanted for numerous and explicit reasons. It wasn't bad or anything, just a clean shot threw his shoulder. He hasn't been to work for a couple of weeks and today's his first day back, he has the enjoyment of being put to desk duty. Note my sarcasm, the one thing my father despises the most in his life is desk duty. He'd rather be out in the field then crammed in a cubicle. He always said it isn't his style. With a roll of my eyes I dispose of my plate and check the time, seeing I had enough time to make it to school on time. Grabbing my bag and phone, I dash out of the house and begin the walk to school.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------As I walked into the building I couldn't help but notice the new freshman squealing and giggling, obviously excited to start high school. I laugh to myself knowing that by half way threw this year they won't be as excited as they are now. High school was always mysterious and alluring to me. It was like a big fairy tail. But it isn't anything like you'd expect. Nothing changes. Not even the people, if anything they all get worse. Popping in my combination I've had sense freshman year I shove all my newly acquired books into it before slamming it shut.
"Jesus Christ, finally" my best friend Chloe huffs out, leaning against the locker beside mine. I raise my eye brow, signaling for her to continue, and she does. "I've been looking all over for you, Principal Owens wants all seniors to report to the auditorium for some big announcement." I give her a blank look, having no idea about any of what she just said. "Grayson!." she whines looking at me in shock, "how could you have forgotten? I've reminded you for the past 3 weeks ever sense he sent the email out to us all." I groan and smile at her sheepishly remembering all the times she's blatantly reminded me over the course of the rest of our summer. "Sorry-" but I was cut off by the shrill sound of the louder speaker coming to life. ''All seniors please report to the auditorium for a special announcement from Principal Owens." the secretary states before cutting the announcement off. "Well come on then, might as well see what all the fuss is about" Chloe gives me one of her award winning smiles and then we're off with Chloe leading me by my upper arm.
Finding a seat in the auditorium should have been the easy part about all of this, but surprisingly as we arrived with a group of are friends, the entire auditorium was packed. "Well damn" my friend Taylor speaks up over the noise of the students. "This should have been a walk in the park" my other friend Claire speaks up, voicing my thoughts. We all stand there looking dumbfounded until Jackson, one of our guy friends motions all of us over to an empty row of seats, he saved for us. Sitting down next to Chloe I smile at him before turning my attention to the tapping sound of the microphone the principal held in his hand.
"Senior class of 2015, I have gathered you bright and intelligent students here today, in hopes to pave a new way for seniors at West Middleton High." He clears his throat addressing the crowd of students. Before continuing. "The faculty and I have had many discussions with the school board pertaining to the matter at hand and we have came to an understanding." I look at Chloe and the rest of my friends in confusion. What was Principal Owens planning? I was more than nervous to find out due to past situations involving him. It seemed like all my friends had the same thought as we turned are attention back to the stage.
"The school will be participating in a countless amount of fundraisers, auctions, and benefits to raise money." He pauses for a dramatic effect and I look at Chloe in panic, "what the hell is he planning" I whisper to her and she looks at me, shrugging her shoulders and shaking her head also clearly having no clue as to what our principal has planned. He addresses the students trying to diminish the loud chattering the has started before continuing his speech once again.
"The money we earn, in the end will be used to fund a trip. This trip is over a two month period of time and is held at the end of the school year. The school board believes that sense you will be becoming adults that we should treat the lot of you as adults. The trip will teach you how to earn your own money, live with different people, and how to organize a trip. Every single one of you students will receive a packet explaining this trip further. But remember, this isn't a gift, you all must earn it." I look at my group of friends in shock, as the chattering of the students began. This is so not what I was expecting, not at all in the least. I stand up and thank the Vice Principal as she handed me my packet. Looks like this year is going to be exciting.
