Chapter Two: I'll Make You Call Me Daddy
(EDITED)
"Tell me, Celine. Do you really want me to be happy?" my mom asked, her voice is soft but full of emotions.
I just stared at her, unsure of how to respond.
"I know that you want to make me happy. I want to start a new life with Leryle. He’s the only one who makes me feel loved. Please, don’t take that away from me." Her voice cracked slightly as she spoke, and I could see how important this was to her.
Yes, I want her to be happy.
Who am I to take that away from her? My mom is getting older. I just want her to enjoy life to the fullest… even if that means being with someone who's almost the same age as me.
"Now, if you want to make me happy, eat breakfast with us," she said, smiling a little as she took my arm and led me to the breakfast table.
Ryle followed us and sat next to my mom. He's in front of me.
"Lead the prayer, Celine," my mom said, her tone light but commanding.
We all made the Sign of the Cross and I began: "Dear Lord, we thank You for this food we are about to eat. We ask that You bless it and guide our… family… along Your path. In Jesus’ name, Amen."
Family...
I crossed myself, finishing the prayer.
"Let’s eat!" my mom said excitedly.
With little appetite, I took a pancake from the stack my mom had made and put it on my plate while I listened to them laugh.
What the hell are they talking about? Why are they laughing so much?
I cleared my throat deliberately, trying to interrupt their conversation. They paused when they noticed me, then quickly stopped laughing and began to eat in silence.
Lalandi.
Just then, my mom’s phone rang that caught her attention. "Sagutin ko lang 'to. Celine, clean up after you’re done," she said as she stood up.
I nodded, barely acknowledging her as she left. Now, I'm left alone with Ryle.
The silence between us stretched on until he broke it. "Do you want me to leave?" he asked with a casual tone.
I paused, staring at him, unsure how to respond."Kapag sinabi ko bang 'oo', aalis ka?" I asked sarcastically.
"No," he replied quickly, without hesitation.
"Then don’t ask," I snapped, giving him an irritated look before standing up. I grabbed my plate and threw the leftovers into the trash.
As I wash my plate, I felt Ryle's presence from behind me. "You’ll love me soon, darling. I’m your 'daddy', and I’ll make you call me Daddy," he whispered in an odd tone.
My eyebrows furrowed in confusion and annoyance. I turned to look at him, but he was already walking away, placing his plate in the sink before leaving me alone.
That man is really getting on my nerves. Putang ina.
Later that night, my mom left for a party. As far as I know, she wouldn't be back until 3 a.m. or so.
With her gone, I had no choice but to be alone with Ryle for the night. But at least I won't have to sleep in the same room with him—that was something, right?
A few hours later, I left my room and didn’t see Ryle anywhere. Baka tulog na.
I went to the fridge, hoping to find something to eat. Instead, I found some beers. I grabbed one and poured it into a glass.
I drank the entire glass of beer in one go. It wasn’t a huge glass, but it was strong, and I immediately felt the bitterness hit my tongue.
"Ang pait, puta," I muttered to myself, my face is scrunching up from the taste.
I poured another glass but took my time this time, not drinking it as quickly. Baka naman mamatay na ako kung gano'n.
But before I knew it, I finished several glasses, finishing off all the beers in the fridge. The dizziness hit hard.
"I miss my daddy. Where’s my daddy?" I mumbled to myself, the room is spinning around me.
Lumilindol ba o sadyang nahihilo lang ako?
I stood up, barely able to keep my balance, and stumbled towards my dad's room. Everything felt like it was moving in slow motion.
I opened the door and saw him lying asleep in bed. I closed the door quietly behind me, then walked over to the bed and laid down beside him, wrapping my arms around his back.
"Daddy… I missed you so much. You're always working... can you buy me a red velvet cake tomorrow?" I whispered with a heavy head.
"Daddy--"
Suddenly, he went above me, making me freeze in shock.
Hindi ito si daddy. The person above me doesn't look old like my dad.
Who the hell is this?
"Who are you?" I pouted, confused and disoriented.
I want to kiss this poging boy. Who is he?
He didn’t answer. He just stared at me, his gaze pierced. "What are you doing here--"
I didn’t wait for him to say more. I kissed him, wrapping my arms around his neck. He kissed me back, and my thoughts got blurry. I could feel the tension and urgency between us.
All of a sudden, he broke the kiss by speaking. "So fucking good..."
My eyes widened. Tila nabuhayan ang diwa ko't itinulak siya papalayo sa akin.
He confusingly stared at me. "Why? What’s wrong?"
"This is wrong!" I said, panic creeping into my voice. "Boyfriend ka ni mommy! You're a fucking jerk!"
"You kissed me first," he replied with a strange calmness. "You even called me ‘daddy.’"
"M-may dahilan 'yon!" nauutal kong sagot. "Ugh! Never mind!" Sigaw ko bago umalis sa kama.
Padabog kong binuksan ang pinto at lumabas bago muling ibagsak ang pinto pasara.
Hindi ako makapaniwala sa ginawa ko. Tangina.
"At bakit hindi siya umiwas!? Kung mahal niya ang mama ko, hindi niya gagawin 'yon!" I talked to myself.
Nahihilo pa ako, but the reality of the situation started to set in. I had made a mistake.
