"Tal, can we leave?" Amber whines for what seems like the hundredth time within ten minutes.

I sigh, flipping the page. "You can go. I want to stay until they're closing in half in hour."

"It's Friday, Talia! Mikey's having a party tonight. Come with me."

"Amber, they don't even like me."

I finally look up to see her roll her emerald green eyes. "I think it's the other way around."

"I'd rather read than go to some party filled with drunk people that I don't care for." I tell her.

Amber and I have known each other for nearly five years. She's always been the wild child; crazy and rebellious. I, however, would much rather spend my time engrossed in one of my novels, or watching pretty little liars on Netflix.

Amber is a total people's person. Very one loves her bubbly personality and friendly demeanour. She's very upfront and outgoing, making her and I complete opposites. I do think we balance each other out. She makes me attend parties with her occasionally, and I convince her not to skip school all the time.

I don't have many friends, but that's perfectly fine with me. I would say I prefer to spend my time alone, rather than having a second party to have to entertain. Amber is probably the only exception. I have no idea how we came to be so close, regarding the fact that the only personality trait we share is our bluntness.

I may not be very social, but it doesn't keep me from speaking up, or sharing my honest opinion. Maybe it's one of the reasons I find it hard to socialize.

Amber groans, running her hand through her long, golden tresses. "Tal, I love you, but you are incredibly boring."

I laugh softly, looking up to her. "You'll be fine without me. You have lots of friends." She pouts, giving me the puppy eyes. "But none of them can replace you."

"Enough with the sap." I reply smugly. "Go to Mikey's party."

She sighs in defeat. "How will you get home?"

I look over to the window, only now noticing the pouring rain outside. Amber drove us here to the public library, at my request, right after school ended.

"It's fine, I'll call my brother to pick me up." I tell her.

"Alright." She frowns slightly. She begins to leave, but turns back. "If you change your mind, call me."

I nod, even though I don't plan on going to party. After she leaves, I turn my attention back to the book resting on my lap. My thumb is in between the pages, marking my page.

Ladies and gentlemen, the library will be closing in twenty minutes, I hear through the intercom.

As people began standing to leave, I stay seated, as I always do. Almost everyday, the same seat in the corner by the window in the fiction section until closing. I continue to read, while everyone files out one by one. I am always the last person out.

"Excuse me." A deep voice says behind me.

I turn my head and see an attractive boy, whom looks to be around my age. He's wearing a vest and a name tag, so I assume he works here.

"We're closing." He tells me. I look down at the watch around my wrist, before looking back up at him. "I have fifteen minutes." I state, turning back to my book. I hear him let out an exasperated breath behind me.

I feel the couch dip down beside me. When I look over, the he is sitting next to me, watching my impatiently. "What are you doing?" I ask, putting my book down. I cannot stand being watched while I'm doing something. It makes me nervous.
