Thursday.
it was another boring basketball practice. at least for hyeongjun, he didn't play the sport. he simply watched most practices as he did his homework. “you said you don't like sports though?” he heard a voice, coming from above him. someone had just joined him on the empty bleachers. during the practices, hyeongjun and a girl or two would be watching. so, hearing another boy's voice surprised him at first. he looked up and smiled at the boy. “seungmin plays on the team.” he explained, the boy who just sat next to him hummed. “you really like seungmin, no?” hyeongjun often talked about him, of course they were extremely close friends. they had been for a while now. he thought very fondly of him.
“he's my best friend joo.” he shook his head, now that wasn't a complete lie. they weren't just best friends, but seungmin didn't want him telling everyone about it.
the younger boy shrugged, he was about to sit next to him. but the coach yelled out his name. “lee jooyeon, you come back here right now! when i told you that you could sit down for a moment, i said the bench, not the bleachers!” he yelled at him. he slightly jumped before running back to the court. the coach talked to him for a short while before he started running around the court.
seungmin had been watching all of this unfold. he laughed as he saw the boy run his fifth and last lap. “now you won't be doing this again, sit on the bench.” he said. hyeongjun checked the time on his phone before letting out a sigh of relief. there was only a couple of minutes before practice would be over.
he had just finished his homework, and now had nothing left to do. hyeongjun had absolutely no interest in basketball. he started packing up his things. he looked at the ceiling and listened to the sounds of the balls hitting the floor continuously.
“alright practice is over, head out, apart from jooyeon, stay here." hyeongjun excitedly stood up to join seungmin. he tapped on the boy's shoulder. he quickly turned around, to be greeted by him smiling. “hey seungmin!” he exclaimed, he rarely was this excited when talking or even seeing someone. but seungmin brought so much joy to him, which was why he was a completely different person around him.
the older boy stumbled back at first when realizing how close they were. “hey hyeongjun.” he said rather sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly. he'd always act this way around him, in public. when they were all alone, he would be the kindest person to hyeongjun. he thought it was just the way that seungmin was in public. after all, everytime they were outside, even when he just met him.
the boy grabbed his bag and followed hyeongjun outside the gym. “my mother is offering to bring you home.” he spoke, seungmin's eyes widened. “that would be great! thank you.” they left the almost empty school building and searched for the boy's car in the parking lot. “over there.” he headed over to a simply white car, that blended in with all the others. he held onto the boy's hand as he went to the car. the older one quickly took his hand away. he stuffed it in his coat pocket. “what the hell, jun!” he exclaimed madly, the guitarist lowered his head. “not in public goddamit.” he scolded, the boy nodded and opened the door to let seungmin inside. he closed the door and entered by the other side.
“hello mom!” hyeongjun exclaimed cheerfully despite that not being the way he felt at all. the way seungmin had reproved him severely lowered his mood. “hello hyeongjun, hello seungmin.” she greeted the two boys as she was leaving the parking lot.
seungmin quickly glanced at the boy, then looked outside the window. “can i stay at your house for a while? instead of immediately going home?” he asked, both hyeongjun and his mother. “you're always welcome seungmin, you never need to ask.” she replied, hyeongjun faked a smile. he didn't really want to hang out with him. which was unusual, as he loved hanging out with seungmin anytime. he would usually lift his mood on bad days. but now, he was the one that lowered it.
hyeongjun didn't live that far away from school, which meant that he could walk to and from home without much struggle. but, because of the weather, it was usually more comfortable to go by car during autumn and winter.
seungmin lived in the same neighbourhood, but just on the opposite side of it. they arrived at the house and quickly headed to the younger boy's room.
“you're so pretty, jun!” he exclaimed as he planted a quick kiss on his lips. he didn't say anything, he hated how different he acted. “why were you so angsty today?” he asked the boy, slightly distancing himself from his boyfriend. seungmin simply got closer to him, he rested his head on hyeongjun's shoulder. “i was just nervous today.” he explained himself, the younger hummed, unconvinced by his answer. there was definitely more to it. “did you parents fight again?” he asked, usually, he wasn't trying that hard to hide their relationship. he would only act this way when his parents fought, which was getting more and more common with everyday that passed.
that resulted in seungmin coming over more frequently, and staying longer when he did. “did you do the homework?” he asked, completely changing the subject. seungmin frowned but then nodded. if he didn't want to talk about it, then he wouldn't.
“during your practice, here.” he grabbed his books from his bags and opened the pages on the bed. “thank you hyeongjun! i can always count on you~.” he thanked him and immediately started copying his work, only changing the phrasing of the answers.
