~Kindergarten~
"Okay Elliot, I have to work so I can't take you to school. I know it's your first day, I'm sorry, but you're going to ride with a good friend of mine and her son. It's his first day of kindergarten too, so you guys can be friends." My mommy says and I nod. I finish brushing my teeth and wait on the couch for her friend to come. I hear a honk and my mommy grabs my backpack, helping me put it on, before walking me to the car.
"Joanne, thank you so much for taking her. I really appreciate it." Mommy says before opening the door for me to get in. "No problem, I'd be glad to Marie. You be careful going to work though, it's gonna rain soon. Okay." Joanne says and my mom nods. She kisses my forehead before closing my door, and going back inside. I turn my head and look at the little boy. "Hi, I'm Elliot." I say and he smiles. "I'm River, I'm going to call you Elli." He says and I nod smiling.
~First Grade~
"Hey River." I say sitting beside him. "Hey Elli." He replies while shoving food in his mouth. I laugh then start eating lunch. After a minute, a little girl walks up to me and says, "Let's be best friends!" I frown looking at River. He frowns too, "B-but..." I stutter but before I can continue River says, "No! She's my best friend! You can't have her!" And the little girl runs off. "That was mean R." I say looking at him sternly like my mom does to me. "Well would you rather be her best friend?" He questions and I shake my head frantically. "Okay then. I'm gonna have to that a lot though, because everyone wants to be your best friend." He says and I smile hugging him.
~Second Grade~
"River! Look at how high I'm going!" I yell going higher and higher on the swing. "Elli! Slow down, I don't want you to get hurt!" He yells in reply but I don't pay any attention and before I know it I'm on the ground crying. "R, I scraped my knee!" I cry and he runs over to me. "It's okay Elli, shh it's okay." He tries to sooth me. When that doesn't work he says, "Do you want me to give you a kiss? Will that help?" He asks and I nod still crying. He leans over and kisses my forehead like my mom does. I smile, "Thanks R." I smile and he smiles back. "You're welcome."
~Third Grade~
"What do you mean you're leaving!?" I cry. "I'm moving away Ellie." He cries too. "Please don't leave me R!" I sat hugging him and he hugs back."I'm sorry." He replies. "I have to leave now, I love you though." He smiles through teary eyes and I do the same. "I love you too." I say, "Bye." He says getting in the back if his mom's car and leaving. I run home and hug my mom sobbing. "M-mom, he left." I say and she frowns, sighing. "I know, I know sweetie. You'll see him again one day, I promise."
