[ chapter 19 ]

the days after the party and halloweekend felt like a blur. clara could hardly focus on anything, her mind replaying the terrifying events, the blood, the screams, and the image of ghostface lurking among the chaos. school didn't provide much of a reprieve, either. everyone seemed to be talking about the attack, rumors swirling like a storm, mixing truth with wild exaggerations. whispers about who could be next, about who might be behind the mask, lingered in every hallway.

that morning, clara arrived at school feeling as if she were walking through a nightmare. her friends were waiting for her by her locker, looking equally exhausted and on edge. selena was checking her phone obsessively, likely scanning for any messages from their masked tormentor. lottie stood beside her brother, visibly shaken but putting on a brave face.

"everyone's talking about the party," lottie said quietly, glancing around at the crowd. "about ghostface... and spencer getting hurt."

carlos leaned in, voice low and wary. "people think it's one of us, you know. word's spread that ghostface seems to be targeting our group."

bridget's jaw tightened, her fists clenched. "perfect. just what we fucking needed—more bullshit rumors."

clara sighed, feeling the weight of the stares around them. "we need to come up with a solid plan. sitting around, waiting to be picked off one by one isn't going to work. we have to stay one step ahead."

as she said this, noah gave her a small nod, but the expression on his face was troubled. the tension from their argument still lingered, unspoken but palpable, hanging heavily between them.

suddenly, a notification buzzed on clara's phone, followed by a chorus of other students' phones around her. she opened it, and her heart dropped as she saw the attachment—a photo of the group from the party, taken without their knowledge, just moments before ghostface's attack. below the photo, there was a chilling message:

*trick or treat, clara. what will you choose?*

noah peered over her shoulder, his jaw clenching as he read

after school, the group agreed to visit spencer in the hospital. they couldn't shake the feeling that his attack was their fault. the drive over was tense, with everyone exchanging uneasy glances and silent theories. clara glanced at noah, noticing the way his jaw was set and his hands gripped the steering wheel. ever since the party, his mood had grown darker, especially when it came to spencer.

when they arrived, they made their way to spencer's room, where he lay propped up in bed with a thick bandage around his arm. he looked pale, but he managed a weak smile when he saw them.

"look who survived the reaper's party," he joked, though the humor didn't reach his eyes.

clara approached his bedside with a gentle smile, relieved he was okay. "we're glad you're safe, spencer. i'm so sorry... we never thought things would get that out of hand."
