Estrella Karen Gomez, yes I am Mexican, if you were wondering, was born on March 26, 2000. 3:17 am. Everybody thinks this will be the greatest day of your life, unless you almost die. When I was inside my mother, Karla Lorena Garica Gomez, the umbilical cord was wrapped around my neck and yes I could have suffocated on the tiny tube that had been feeding my for 9 months straight. My umbilical cord overthrew me. But, I came out just in time to be saved and ended up being a little girl, a miracle, a star, Estrella. From what I've heard I was born crying face red and magenta. My father, Jose Alex Gomez, always says, "When you were born, man you had the brightest eyes! That's when me and your mom, well we just knew you were a star our little star, Estrella." Then he would tickle me just to make me giggle.

I was born in Portland, Oregon. I still live here. And it's the most amazing place.(besides that it rains all day long and everybody owns an umbrella, a raincoat, rain boots, and one bathing suit for those rare days when it's warm) It was always hard growing up, people making fun of me for being Mexican and always asking, "Oh, you're Mexican, prove it. Say something in Spanish." Then I would always have that satisfaction of insulting them in Spanish like, "Eres tan tonto!" "You're such a blockhead!" And then everyone who wasn't Spanish pronounced my name like, "Hey, As-t-rel-uh!" So ignorant! I had no friends and the only thing I could really do was hunch over inside my bubble that I could never get out of. As a small child I always got A+'s on my assignments, but was too shy to even think about raising my hand. At home it was great I could express who I was and laugh with my family! Whenever my mom would take me and my sister, Pati, short for Patricia, Elizabeth Gomez, who was 12 at the time, went to the library, man, I loved it there because I could let my mind go free and check out all the books my little heart desired! I absolutely loved it!!! I went from reading The Very Hungry Caterpillar to my first chapter books, The Magic Treehouse series. From then on I knew reading was my passion no matter what.
