As Dokja's eyes fluttered, his vision grew hazy, and he felt his strength fading. His friend's panicked face was the last thing he saw before everything went black.
"Dokja! Hey, stay with me!" His friend shook his shoulder, but there was no response. Frantic, he looked around and saw people gathering, some with phones out, some murmuring in concern.
"Someone call an ambulance! Please!" His voice wavered with desperation as he leaned closer to Dokja, checking his pulse and feeling the faint, uneven beat beneath his fingers.
The minutes stretched on painfully, and finally, the sound of an ambulance siren cut through the tense air.
A few days later. A tall man stepped forward, his smile warm but cautious. "Im glad you're awake" he admitted, glancing at Dokja with a mixture of relief and hesitation. "My name's Junghyeok Yu. I'm the one who found you and brought you here."
Dokja's brows furrowed, the dull ache in his head pulsing as he tried to piece together what happened. "You... found me? What do you mean?"
Junghyeok took a deep breath, pulling a chair over and sitting beside the bed. "I was walking home late at night when I saw you on the side of the road. You were unconscious, hurt pretty badly. I couldn't just leave you there." He shrugged, as though it was nothing, but the worry in his eyes betrayed his calm tone. "So, I called an ambulance and stayed with you until they came."
Dokja's head spun, and he sank back into the pillow, trying to absorb Junghyeok's words. He couldn't remember anything no accident, no stranger, no moment where he had been in danger. "So... we've never met before?"
Junghyeok shook his head. "No, we haven't. I just... happened to be there."
Dokja looked at the stranger, feeling a strange mix of gratitude and vulnerability. "Why did you stay with me? I mean, you didn't know me..."
Junghyeok smiled, rubbing the back of his neck. "I don't know. Guess I couldn't walk away from someone who needed help." He paused, his gaze softening as he studied Dokja. "Besides, I thought you might want to see a friendly face when you woke up."
A small, tentative smile crept onto lDokja's face. "Well... thank you, Junghyeok. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't been there."
Junghyeok nodded, his smile brightening. "Don't mention it. Just focus on getting better." He stood, stretching a bit. "I'll let the doctors know you're awake, but I'll be back to check on you. Even if I'm a stranger, you're not alone here."
As Junghyeok left the room, Dokja felt a sense of comfort, an unexpected solace in the presence of someone he'd never met but who had stayed by his side when he needed it most.
As Minho left the room, Dokja stared at the ceiling, feeling the weight of everything he couldn't remember. Why had he been out there alone? Had he been in an accident, or was it something else? The fragments in his mind were like pieces of a puzzle that didn't quite fit. But through it all, there was an odd sense of peace. Minho's presence had felt calming, as though he were someone Dokja could rely on despite being a stranger.
Moments later, the nurse returned, checking the monitors and adjusting his IV. She gave him a warm smile. "You're lucky, you know. That man who found you, Minho? He stayed here for hours, even before they let him in to see you. He insisted on being nearby, just in case you needed someone."
Dokja blinked, the warmth of the nurse's words surprising him. "He did all that for someone he doesn't even know?"
The nurse chuckled, shaking her head. "Kindness isn't something you always understand. Some people just have it in them." She finished her work and gave him a reassuring nod. "Try to rest. The doctor will be in soon to talk to you about your recovery."
