Yn entered her aunt's private sitting room, her heart pounding but her resolve unshaken. Queen Charlotte looked up from her reading, her expression softening as she took in her niece's determined gaze. She set the book down, folding her hands neatly in her lap, a small smile tugging at the corners of her mouth.
"Yn," she began, her tone gentle but curious, "I gather you've made a decision?"
Yn nodded, taking a steadying breath as she stepped forward, her gaze unwavering. "Yes, Aunt Charlotte. I've come to tell you... everything." She paused, gathering her thoughts. "The person I've been meeting, the one who means so much to me - it's Anthony Bridgerton."
A flicker of surprise crossed Queen Charlotte's face, but she composed herself quickly, listening intently as Yn continued.
"We've been meeting in secret for weeks now," Yn explained, her voice softening as she spoke. "And I know how it must sound, but he's not like anyone else. With him, I feel... free. I don't have to be a princess. He understands me, sees me, in a way no one else does." She paused, her eyes shining with emotion. "I love him, Aunt. And he loves me."
Queen Charlotte nodded slowly, absorbing her niece's words, her expression thoughtful but calm. Yn took this as encouragement and continued, her voice steady.
"We've decided to marry," Yn said firmly, her gaze meeting her aunt's. "We both know it won't be easy, but it's what we want. It's what I want."
For a long moment, Queen Charlotte was silent, her gaze searching Yn's face, as though weighing each word, each feeling. Finally, she rose, crossing the room to stand in front of Yn, her expression softening as she placed a hand on her niece's shoulder.
"Anthony Bridgerton..." she murmured, almost to herself, a faint smile tugging at her lips. "I have to admit, I didn't anticipate this." She studied Yn, her voice turning more serious. "But I can see how much he means to you, and I understand now why you've chosen him."
Yn let out a soft breath, her heart pounding with a mixture of relief and anticipation. "He makes me happy, Aunt Charlotte. Truly happy. And I believe he'll make a good husband - not just for me, but for what I need in a partner."
The Queen's expression softened, her gaze filled with a quiet understanding. "Happiness is no small thing, Yn. It is rare, and worth holding onto." She paused, her voice turning thoughtful. "This will raise some eyebrows, undoubtedly. Marrying a Bridgerton may not be the most conventional path, but..." She reached out, taking Yn's hand in hers. "If he is what your heart truly desires, then I will support you. I only ask that you both approach this with care and awareness."
Yn felt tears prick at her eyes, gratitude and relief flooding through her. "Thank you, Aunt Charlotte," she whispered, her voice thick with emotion. "Thank you for trusting me."
The Queen squeezed her hand, her expression tender. "I see the strength of your heart, Yn. And I know you'll make the right choices." She offered a small, almost conspiratorial smile. "Though, I do expect an introduction to this young man under more formal circumstances."
Yn laughed softly, nodding. "Of course. We'll make it official, and I'll ensure you get to know him properly."
Queen Charlotte smiled, pulling her niece into a gentle embrace. "I am proud of you, Yn. For knowing your own heart and following it, even when it isn't easy."
As they pulled back, Queen Charlotte gave her a final nod of approval. "Go to him, then. Let him know that he has my blessing. And together return for a formal meeting."
Yn left her aunt's chambers feeling lighter than she had in weeks, her heart soaring. She had made her choice, and with her aunt's support, she was ready to embrace a future with Anthony - a future she had once only dared to dream of.
Only a few hours had passed since Yn's last visit to Bridgerton House, but it felt as if a lifetime had changed in that short span. She arrived once more in her carriage, her heart racing with anticipation. This time, she was not here for a stolen moment or a private conversation - this was the beginning of something official.
As she stepped out of the carriage and made her way up the steps, she found herself both exhilarated and slightly nervous. When she entered, the butler led her directly to the drawing room, where both Anthony and Violet were already waiting, their expressions a mixture of curiosity and anticipation.
Anthony rose to his feet as soon as she entered, his gaze softening with warmth and a hint of wonder. "Yn," he said, his tone gentle, as though he could hardly believe she had returned so soon. "Is everything all right?"
She smiled, stepping further into the room. "Yes, everything is more than all right," she replied, glancing at him and then at Violet, whose expression mirrored her son's curiosity. "I came to tell you that it's time to meet the queen."
Both Anthony and Violet exchanged a look, the weight of her words settling over them. Violet's eyes widened slightly, a faint smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. "The queen..." she murmured, her voice touched with awe. "So soon?"
Yn nodded, her gaze steady but filled with excitement. "Yes. My aunt has given us her blessing, and she's requested that we meet formally. She doesn't want to delay anything, and... neither do I."
Anthony's face lit up, his smile growing as he took a step closer, his hand reaching for hers. "Then it's truly happening," he said softly, almost as if he needed to say it aloud to believe it himself. "You're certain?"
"I am," she replied, her voice firm yet full of warmth as she looked into his eyes. "I told her everything, Anthony. And she trusts me. She trusts us."
Violet's expression softened, her pride and happiness clear as she stepped forward. "Then we will be ready," she said, her voice filled with a quiet determination. "Thank you, Your Highness, for placing such trust in us."
Yn squeezed Anthony's hand, glancing at him and then at Violet, feeling the strength of the bond they had all forged, a connection she knew would only grow stronger. "Thank you, both of you, for embracing this with me. Together, we'll face whatever comes."
And as they prepared to meet the queen, the three of them stood together, united in purpose and ready to step into a future that was now closer than ever.
As the initial excitement settled, Yn looked at Violet, a soft, warm smile on her face. She reached out, gently placing a hand on the older woman's arm.
"Lady Bridgerton," she began, her tone both affectionate and sincere, "I think it's time you call me Yn. After all, if we're to be family, there's no need for formalities."
Violet's eyes softened, a smile spreading across her face. "Yn," she said warmly, letting the name settle comfortably, as though she'd always been meant to say it. "Thank you. It's an honor I don't take lightly."
Yn gave her a gentle squeeze, gratitude shining in her eyes. "The honor is mine, Violet," she replied, her words filled with affection and respect. "I couldn't be more grateful for the kindness and acceptance you've shown me."
Violet looked between her son and Yn, her heart full, and she nodded, her voice gentle yet brimming with pride. "Then, Yn, welcome to the family. I couldn't be happier to have you with us."
And in that moment, Yn felt truly at home, surrounded by the love and acceptance she had longed for, a part of a family that already felt like her own.
