"Alright, is everybody here?"

Rodger's one eyed gaze surfed across the small crowd of toons he had decided to take out on yet another run.

It wasn't anything out of the ordinary, though. They were just going to scout the first ten floors or so so they could refill some of the machines.

Flutter was floating at the back of the crowd of toons, as she didn't like being the center of the crowds.

Gigi wasn't here yet, and Flutter knew she had wanted to join the run today.

She tried flapping her wings harder to get Rodger's attention, but that only caused an agitated Glisten to whip around with a sharp glare.

"Flutter, could you PLEASE not blow wind right in my face??" He hissed.

Flutter froze with bewilderment.

"..."

Ugh.

She landed on her feet, stamping one on the ground with frustration, inwardly grumbling.

Ever since she was a caterpillar, Flutter had never seemed to have a voice. While she was used to it, it was incredibly frustrating to constantly try to express yourself to others who COULD talk just for them to completely misunderstand everything.

"Flutter?" Goob asked from her side gently, "Is something wrong?"

Before Flutter could respond, a familiar voice piped up from behind.

"Yo! I'm here!"

Flutter turned around to see Gigi, her best friend. Gigi smiled at her warmly.

"Heeeey Flutter! What's up?"

"...!"

Flutter's face visibly lightend up at the sight of her dear friend.

Gigi extended her fist, and Flutter gently brushed it with her wing. A wing bump they liked to call it.

"Alright, Gigi's here! Let's go everyone."

Rodger lead the toons to one of the elevators where they all stepped inside and waited quietly for the elevator door to close.

Gigi stood next to Flutter as she hovered in the air like she usually did. She stood on her toes and whispered to the butterfly.

"Hey, wanna hang at my room after this? We could like...watch a movie. Or something. Totally your call!"

"..!!"

Flutter fluttered her wings happily. Gigi gasped delightedly.

"A SLEEPOVER? I LOVE the way you think, Flutts!"

"...!!!"

Flutter beamed.

Gigi seemed to be the only toon who always knew EXACTLY what she was saying.

She was glad to have a friend like her.

The elevator doors finally began to close. Then...

"WAIT FOR ME, IDIOTS!!"

A familiar loud, scratchy voice called from outside.

Shrimpo the shrimp ran under the door just before it closed, and as soon as he did a wave of very audible groans and sighs echoed through the elevator.

"Shrimpo!"

Goob ran up to his "friend", his fluffy purple tail wagging vigorously.

"I'm so glad you came! What're you doing here? I thought you didn't wanna go on a run today?"

"YEA, WELL, I CHANGED MY MIND. I'M BORED! I HATE BEING BORED!"

He shoved the canine craft to the side as he stomped over to the elevator wall and leaned on it with a huff, his arms crossed and face pouty.

Flutter simply watched with amusement, Gigi letting out a small chuckle beside her.

Flutter didn't exactly like Shrimpo, in fact you could possibly say she was afraid of him.

But he was unintentionally very funny.

Shrimpo's head snapped in Gigi's direction.

"WHAT ARE YOU LAUGHING AT? STOP LAUGHING AT ME! I HATE YOU!"

Gigi took a deep breath, trying to hold back any more giggles, although she was very clearly struggling with it.

Shrimpo growled before turning back to stare at his feet.

The elevator suddenly halted, and after a moment, the doors opened, and everyone began heading out to to their own thing.

"Best of luck, everyone."

Rodger murmured.

Gigi tapped Flutter's shoulder.

"C'mon Flutts, you can guard me while I extract!"

"...!"

Flutter nodded eagerly and the pair set off together, the only one who had yet to leave the elevator being Shrimpo.

——-

Shrimpo grumbled as he dragged himself out of the elevator and out into the open.

Great.

Throwing himself into the face of danger out of pure boredom.

Although the toons had all pretty much grown used to this routine, as they have gained so much extraction and distraction experience over the many months, and they have not lost anyone for a long time.

Shrimpo was not usually invited to any runs, likely because he was hard to work with and nobody liked him.

Which was fine.

Frankly he didn't like them either. Nor did he like doing runs.

So why did he suddenly decide that today he wanted to go on one?

Goodness knows.

After a minute of walking, he crept past a pair of crates and found one of the machines.

He sighed and rolled his eyes as he approached it and began to turn the wheel, muttering to himself.

"I hate extracting..."
