The smell of roses and pancakes wafted through the air up into their bedroom. Angelina began to toss and turn in the duvet, the morning sunlight peeked in through the curtains and lit up the side of her face. Theodore continued to make their breakfast as he waited for her to walk down the stairs. His phone lit up with a notification from Aurora his beloved stepdaughter as he flipped the last pancake. He placed the pan down and picked it up, "Happy anniversary dad! Is mom awake yet?"
He responded quickly, "I think she's awake; I can hear her walking around up there. She's probably just getting dressed and ready for the day."
"Do you think there's any time for me to drop by really quick? I got mom some flowers and Lucas wants to visit with her before I take him to preschool." Aurora replied.
"She's coming down now, I'm sure she'll enjoy the visit. Does Lucas want some tiny pancakes for the road?" He sent back as his gaze shifted to Angelina as she came down the stairs.
"Maybe a few, he already had breakfast. We will be there in 10." Aurora replied as she turned off her phone and got Lucas into his car seat.
Theodore ignored the last notification and walked over to his wife with open arms and a warm smile. They hugged for a moment then Theodore spoke. "Happy anniversary my dear." as he kissed her forehead, "Sorry about the mess I didn't have time to clean up the rose scraps."
Angelina chuckled quietly as she looked at him, "You've got flour on your forehead Theo." she whispered as she tried to dust some of it off with her sleeve.
"Oh, never mind that, toppings are more important. I'll wash up in a moment." Theodore stepped away from the embrace over to the fridge. "What fruit do you want with the pancakes?"
"Hmm" Angelina pondered for a moment as she sat down at the table, "I'll take strawberries and raspberries if we have them."
"Of course, we have strawberries what kind of a home do you think this is?" Theodore joked as he put her food on the plate. He grabbed silverware and brought it to her seat. His hand reached for one of the fresh roses he cut and de-thorned earlier that morning, he tucked it behind her ear gently. "I hope you like them. I tried a new spice this year."
"You know I always enjoy your cooking Theo." She said lovingly as she added syrup to the fluffy stack of pancakes.
Sorry this was short! I haven't worked out how long I want each update to be yet.
