Summery:
This image could also be called "Hippie Ash and Misty 2" as they've already had another picture uploaded to this profile before. This was when Ash and Misty time travelled to the 1960's, at the height of the countermovement that was against the Vietnam War that was going on at the time. Although it's just too bad that hippies resorted to violence themselves during protests, or during drug filled freak-outs.
The 1960's was a dramatic shift from cultural norms at the time. The Civil Rights Movement and the Feminist Movement contributed to changes in social norms, alongside with the hippie movement as depicted in this image. Some people tried to fight back however, as evident with the high profile assassinations of both John and Robert F Kennedy, Martin Luther King and Malcom X. This was all still during the Cold War, where the US was in Vietnam to prevent the spread of communism, which ultimately failed. On the bright side, the US would be the first to achieve putting men on the moon, a major technological breakthrough during the Space Race against the Soviet Union.
