It's a warm afternoon, the kind of day that reminds you how summer is hanging on just a little longer. Eloise and Ceilia are seated cross-legged on the grass outside their favorite cafe, sipping on their twinning ice coffee chatting about their rapidly approaching college lives.
"Can you believe it? Move-in day's only a week away. Summer really flew by this year." Ceilia says while stirring her drink.
Eloise sighs. "I know right? College is almost here, but Im terrified and really excited. It just doesn't feel real. I always tell myself it's just a change of scenery, but it feels like i'm stepping into a whole different world."
"Thats the terrifying part" Remarks Ceilia. "But I cant wait to have my own space! A whole new college apartment as freshies! I was too excited, i started packing a month ago." Ceilia says grinning through her smile that beamed almost as bright as the sun.
I could tell she was excited, and so was I. I just.. wasn't THAT ready. It's like the same way I felt when my older brother Emilo was leaving for college. Just me and Enzo left, with our mom pregnant with Evaine. But now I'm the one leaving.. it's just weird.
"You're way away of the game Celia. I've yet to buy my bed sheets! I just hope my roommate isn't the type to leave dishes everywhere and expect me to clean as if I were her mother." I hounded.
Ceilia shrugged in agreement. "True. If that happened, I'd request a transfer A.S.A.P. But hey, what's your roommate like anyway?" She asked.
Everyone had the opportunity to request a roommate or not. Both Ceilia and I decided having a roommate in our first years of college would help us better experience the college life.
"My roommates name is Andrea. I don't really know much about her yet— she hasn't responded to my texts for the longest time. I feel like she's a little.. quiet? I just hope we'll get along." I spoke.
"Jeez, Andrea's the polar opposite of you." Ceilia snorted. "I just hope you guys attract rather than repel. And plus if shes quiet, that means you'll have to do all the talking. Which we all know you love doing." Ceilia said teasing me.
"Ha, funny. At least i know i'll be good at making her feel comfortable if she's shy. I just hope she doesn't mind my.. eccentric music tastes."
Ceilia laughs louder than ever before. Damn, i didn't know i was THAT funny.
"I'm sure she'll be fine" Ceilia added. "Worst case scenario, you just become best friends."
"Yeah, no biggie. Anyways" Eloise says between sipping her no watered down 'iced' coffee. "Whats your roommate like?"
"Honestly, I don't know yet. The Uni's been preeetty vague about it. I'm guess she's going to be quiet too, based on the fact that she hasn't messaged me back either. But if she's anything like my beautiful best friend Eloise, i'll be totally fine" she boasted and smiled.
I returned a soft and bright smile right back. I love Ceilia. I really do. I wish we were going to the same Universities, but we both got full rides across the continent. Theres no WAY we'd turn them down.
"I just hope we don't get stuck with roommates who bring their entire life's wardrobe and turn the apartment into a jungle of clothes and shoes" I remarked. I have two brothers. A 17 year old, and a 19 year old. Do you really think I want to deal with that bullshit again?
They both relax, and laugh for a moment. Eloise finally seems more calmed down, and the excitement finally feels real. The next week will bring a whirlwind of new beginnings.
