They hadn't talked about the kiss after Armin's party. Armin doesn't know what hurts more, Eren going about his day hanging out with him and the band as if nothing happened, or ignoring Armin altogether. Maybe it's because it felt like a dream; maybe he was so drunk that he hallucinated the whole thing, judging by how Eren continues to joke with him and calls him Fullmetal like he always does. It's torture for Armin, honestly.
"Hey Armin, are you listening?" Eren's voice snaps him out of his thoughts. How ironic.
"Huh yeah? I'm here." Armin blinks and shakes his head to keep the memory of their kiss out of his mind.
"As I was saying, have you tried composing music with your violin before?" he asks, his gaze initially meeting Armin's but immediately averting it after he looks his way.
"I've done it for homework before but I'm not the best at it," he replies, idly strumming the strings of his violin.
"That's fine, Mikasa's amazing at composing music." Armin glances at her and he can see her perk up after Eren finishes speaking. Eren and Mikasa are a force to be reckoned with in music. Eren's lyrics are personal but relatable to anyone who listens, and each rhythm and melody that Mikasa composes weaves and blends together to convey Eren's words. The siblings are geniuses by their own right. Well almost—if the Battle of the Bands didn't demand such high expectations for My War.
Now that Armin's part of My War as their violinist, the whole band has to start with a clean slate. None of their songs can fit a violin's melody without making it sound out of place, so they have to write a new song. Armin felt bad about it when Eren first explained it, but he reassured Armin that it's going to be fine and that the extra effort is worth it.
"I can whip up a quick song for the auditions to blow them away," Eren says with his chest puffing up in confidence. "Thankfully the competition starts next semester, so we have plenty of time to brainstorm new songs and practice them."
So here they all are, in Eren and Mikasa's shared apartment. Sasha idly taps her drumsticks on the couch's armrest, and Jean is busy typing away at his economics homework on the kitchen counter. Ymir tagged Krista along and they're in the corner of the living room flirting. It's just Eren, Mikasa and Armin sprawled on the floor, music sheets spread around them.
Armin picks up one of the music sheets with messily scribbled notes. It's one of the melodies he tried writing last night. He picks up his violin and places his chin on the rest. The first three notes come together naturally, but there's something off on the fourth one. With a frustrated sigh he plops on the floor with his violin resting on his chest. His eyes wander over to Eren, hunched over next to him. Thankfully, he's too deep in lyric writing to notice Armin staring at him. Armin pouts and thinks about their kiss again.
It wasn't even a quick peck! Or maybe it was? Armin just remembers time slowing down when their lips came into contact. Maybe to Eren it was a millisecond but to him, it felt like it lasted more than three. No, it couldn't have been a quick peck—the way Eren pressed his lips against Armin was too hard, too deep for something as fleeting as that.
God, sometimes Armin wishes that Eren would avoid him after their kiss instead of playing pretend. At least if he'd actively avoided Armin, that would mean that the kiss affected Eren just as much as it affected him. Ignoring the massive elephant in the room between them makes Armin think that he hallucinated the whole thing. His overwhelming feelings for Eren is making him completely delusional.
