Chapter 35: Wild imaginations.Everett was at the door when Allison came out of Alexander's office.
"Hey!", she called out waving. "What are you doing here? How long have you been standing there?"He looked at her with eyes shining. "Not long. What happened in there? Did he yell at you?"
"Alex? Yell at me? Not in a million years. Where's Helen?"
"She's busy", he went forward and held her hands, bringing her bruised knuckles in view. "She told me to check on you and take you to the infirmary. You hurt yourself while beating up Courtney which I have to admit was badass of you".
He chuckled and she looked up into his dark brown eyes. She never noticed this before but his eyebrows were well defined and his eyes seemed to be drawing her in...
"Done looking?"She coughed slightly and averted her gaze. "You didn't need to call me out like that".
He laughed again. "If I didn't call you out, who would?"She nudged his shoulder playfully and they walked in comfortable silence to the infirmary. He helped her to bandage her hands. While bandaging, he noticed that her bruises were smaller than before.
"You didn't have to walk me to my dorm, Everett".
Everett had insisted on accompanying her to her dorm. " Eleanor would break my legs if Courtney's friends decided to ambush you and, in the process, injured you because I didn't follow you. Don't get into fights for now. At least let your hands heal first"."You make it sound like I go around looking for trouble. I can take of myself".
He began to walk away. "Everett?""What's up?"
"Thanks"
"Don't mention it. It felt good taking care of a beauty like you".
She bolted into her room and leaned against the door. She felt a blush creep to her cheeks and she tried hard to stabilize her breathing.
"Allie?"She yelped and a lamp stand switched on revealing a side of Helen's face on the bed. She looked eerie.
"HELEN! Don't scare me like that!""What's that creepy smile doing on your face?"
With Helen ignoring her comment and going straight to ask a question, Allison knew that she was dead serious. She revealed a lopsided smile. "Creepy smile? What creepy smile?"
Helen got up and walked towards her. "You know, the creepy smile I see on girls' faces when my brother shows even the tiniest bit of interest in them. That creepy smile".
Allison responded with a simple 'Oh'."Don't 'oh' me. As much as I would like you to be my future sister- in- law. You don't want to get involved with Everett".
"Slow down. Who said I'm getting involved with anybody? You're letting your imagination run wild".
Helen held her by the shoulders. "I know what I'm saying when I say it. Everett took you to the infirmary, didn't he?". She didn't wait for Allison to answer, she continued, "He must have flirted with you, because your face is as red as a bright red tomato. Girl, I can even hear your heartbeat".
Allison casually removed her hands from her shoulders. "That doesn't mean anything".
Eleanor breathed out a huge sigh. "Strong objection means something. But if the two of you were meant to be, I give my blessings. Maybe you will be able to change his playboy attitude. He changes girlfriends a tad bit slower than he changes clothes"."Like I said, you're letting your imagination run wild".
****
Nightfall came and while everyone was asleep, one person was wide awake. Allison quietly got up from her bed and turned on her lamp stand. She slowly untied her bandaged hands and seeing the smooth skin like there was no injury there on the first place, she gasped.
