A girl sat hunched over her laptop on a Friday afternoon. Her smooth fingers slid across the mouse pad and keyboard, while her other hand was occupied petting a fluffy color point cat. She lived alone in a small house with Ezera and a minimum wage job as a waiter in the nearby restaurant.
At the moment, Wenny was scrolling on Kigigi searching and buying anything that interested her. Earlier, she had found figurines of one of her favourite characters based on an egg, but she already owned it. It was hard to buy something anyways with barely any money in her bank account.
The house was silent besides the occasional click on the little square on the bottom of the device, and her emotion stayed neutral until a gasp escaped her mouth and a shocked look. Wenny stood up immediately, her thin, blue undershirt sticking to the leather couch under a plain black tee. The cat looked startled, when it woke and looked at its owner staring at the screen as if she saw a ghost.
The open mouthed shape it held was lost in a few seconds, quickly transformed to a wide smile. As much as she wanted to jump up and down like a little kid, her computer was holding a weak grip from one hand, and the other attached itself before being shattered to pieces.
A flare fell on the screen, causing an uncomfortable gleam, but an image of a run down restaurant was placed in the middle of the screen. According to the website, it was 200 dollars to purchase, and a 30 minute drive from Wenny's neighborhood. Ever since she was a child, it was a dream to become a chef. Now was her chance.
With the restaurant surrounded by nothing at all, Wenny had to stand out and do something extraordinary so people would actually visit. Her mind was wandering through so many different thoughts, until the doorbell rang, disturbing the excitement static in the air.
She stepped toward the door and opened it.
"Oh, hello!" a small girl looked up shyly. Wenny returned her greeting. "Would you buy a chocolate bar for my school fundraiser?" Hesitation burnt Wenny's throat as usual before making a purchase, but this time she pushed forward, knowing once she bought that place she would be swimming in riches.
"How much?" she smiled softly, grabbing her wallet off the side table. The kid's grin immediately lit up. "Three bucks!" The future chef passed the kid two coins in return for dark chocolate with a fun green and silver wrapping. The girl started to saunter in the opposite direction and called "Thank you! Also your hair is so pretty!"
Wenny's hair was a dark shade of purple with natural black roots. It shone in the sun and she always received compliments for it.
Shutting the door, she walked back into the living room to continue her research on the restaurant, which wasn't even needed as she would buy it anyways. Life savings had been dedicated to nothing. Nothing, ever since her parents started making her when she was six. Other than her own restaurant. That would get more money than all the fast food chains and restaurants in the area.
Footsteps were heading for the lonesome restaurant. Black sneakers hit against the ground repeatedly and consistently. They finally stopped when in front of the old building. Wenny had collected the keys from the previous owner earlier and decided to take the bus and then walk here.
The keys jangled as she fiddled with it to open. The doors were unlocked now and it looked as if it hadn't been touched in years.
On her left side, a bar with a few seats for customers who prefer their legs dangling below them. And on the right were multiple tables with four chairs each. If you went straight when you entered, as Wenny did, you would find the kitchen and counter for taking orders.
The floors were covered in footprints from previous years, and the counters were stained with all types of burger ingredients. Ovens lined one wall, and an order window for eating in on another while the other two both had doors. A faded sign that read 'Freezer' was stuck next to one and the second was unnamed but seemed to lead outdoors and the manager room. When Wenny entered the manager room, all she could think was that she would be sitting in that chair. Or helping out in the kitchen like her employees she would hire soon and be called Chef Wenny.
Wenny meandered through the building several times, and when it was about time to go to the bus stop, she exited noticing the extension to the touch screen ordering machines. Probably just for paying or something but it wasn't her problem until she found six employees.
