In the days that followed her encounter with the prince, Jasmine settled into her role with quiet efficiency. She moved through the palace with downcast eyes and measured steps, blending in among the servants as she had been trained to do. The palace was vast and intricate, but each day, Jasmine memorized a little more of its layout, carefully observing the routines of the courtiers and guards, taking mental notes of each hallway and entrance.

One afternoon, while carrying linens down the grand corridor, Jasmine heard a familiar voice—one that instantly made her pulse quicken. She slowed her pace, rounding the corner in time to see Prince Raheel conversing with his advisors. He was dressed in ceremonial robes today, his demeanor serious, but there was a glint of quiet authority in his eyes.

Jasmine watched him from a distance, her gaze steady but hidden beneath lowered lashes. She could see why the people of Meru adored him. He had a natural confidence, a presence that drew attention effortlessly. She lingered a moment longer, then turned away, continuing her work.

Just as she passed another corridor, she caught sight of Lina approaching with brisk steps, her gaze sharp as it landed on Jasmine.

"There you are, Jade," Lina said, her voice curt. "You're needed in the kitchens. The preparations for tonight's banquet are behind schedule, and they need every set of hands available."

Jasmine nodded without hesitation. "Of course, ma'am."

As she made her way to the bustling kitchens, she kept her face neutral, but inside, she felt a flicker of excitement. Banquets meant gatherings of nobility, and gatherings of nobility meant opportunities to learn more about her target. Tonight could bring her one step closer to understanding the people surrounding Raheel—and how best to reach him.

The kitchen was a whirlwind of activity, filled with the scent of roasted meats, freshly baked bread, and aromatic herbs. Jasmine joined the line of servants carrying dishes and wine into the grand banquet hall, the sounds of music and laughter spilling out into the corridor.

As she slipped through the hall's side entrance, she observed the guests gathered under the opulent chandeliers. Nobles sat around long tables, engaged in animated conversations, while musicians played softly in the background. At the head of the room sat Prince Raheel, flanked by his advisors and a few of the kingdom's high-ranking officials.

Jasmine kept her movements precise, careful not to draw attention as she refilled goblets and cleared empty plates. She maneuvered closer to the head table, catching snippets of conversations, but her focus was drawn back to Raheel again and again. The prince appeared relaxed, laughing at some jest one of his advisors made, but there was a sharpness in his gaze, a vigilance that belied his calm demeanor.

After an hour of discreet observation, Jasmine returned to the kitchens to fetch another tray of food. As she reached for the tray, she felt a hand grasp her arm, pulling her aside. She turned to see Lina, her face tense.

"What were you doing out there?" Lina asked, her voice low but filled with suspicion. "You spent far too long near the high table."

Jasmine feigned innocence, widening her eyes. "I'm sorry, ma'am. I only wanted to be sure the goblets were full. I didn't mean any harm."

Lina eyed her for a moment, her gaze piercing, before she sighed and released Jasmine's arm. "Be careful, Jade. You're new here, and you're already attracting attention. One wrong move, and you'll be out on the streets."

Jasmine bowed her head. "I understand, ma'am. Thank you for the warning."

Lina gave a final, wary look before walking away. Jasmine let out a slow breath, a hint of relief and satisfaction mingling within her. She knew she was walking a fine line, but every moment she spent near Raheel was another step closer to completing her mission.
