My mother hurried out the door, me and my brother right behind her. We waited while my mom locked up. She smiled at us, which showed us we could go. All three of us hurried along the path to the next door house. This house had always stood out in our little town with next to no people. It had a nice periwinkle color with vines growing all over one side. The yard used to be overgrown and ugly, but I guess the Grangers had mowed and tried to pretty it up. Aspen walked fast up the path but I tried to keep pace with my mother who was walking a slow, lady like pace. We stood on the front step with the two-story house towering over us. My mother knocked once and almost immediately, a small brown haired boy with different colored eyes answered the door. I observed his eyes because they were something. One was a bright green that looked like leaves on the trees in summer. The other was a dark and vibrant blue like his sister, Alexis. Well I was guessing they were siblings because they had very similar face structures. Big lips and wide set eyes; sharp jaw lines and small noses. I was knocked back into reality when he called for his mother. A plump, pretty woman rushed from the kitchen. She saw us and smiled and took of her apron. She hurried to the door and stood by who I'm guessing is her son.
"Hello. I'm Jamie and these are my children Annabelle and Aspen. We wanted to come and welcome you to the neighborhood." My mother finished the statement and held out the basket of cookies towards the plump women.
"Thank you Jamie. My names Penny and these are my children Misha and-" Penny sighed and called up the stairs to Alexis and a man named Dean. Alexis had her blue hair in a braid and it flipped up behind her when she rode in on the banister. A large man chased after Alexis and skidded to a stop when he saw us. They both shuffled into place besides Penny. "These are my children Misha and Alexis and this is my husband, Dean. Now children why don't you all go play while the adults get acquainted?" We all nodded and Misha and Alexis lead us upstairs. Aspen followed Misha to one side and I followed Alexis to the other. I gasped when I saw her bright and decorated room. She had posters and her walls were painted blue just like her hair. She laughed at my reaction and sat on her huge bed. I sat besides her and shuffled my feet awkwardly.
"So that's your family." Alexis observed. Well obviously it was my family but I guessed she had been trying to make small talk.
"What's California like?" All my questions just rushed out of me a she gave honest answers. California is very hot and dry. Her favorite color is blue. Her favorite book is Hunger Games. Her favorite tv show is Supernatural. She likes to sing. Her favorite food is pizza.
I laughed at each answer because it was so unlike what everyone else would answer in my small town. Maybe Alexis was just the person this town needed.
