"Well, you're not going to see anything like that again." Jonathan murmured, excitement still clear in his eyes. I sigh, "Indeed not." I say glumly. Jonathan looked at me, "Sasha, what's wrong?" I looked up at him. His sorrel eyes were half hidden by a mop of dark brown hair which he brushed away to see me better. I give him a reassuring smile, "I'm fine Jonathan. I'm just a little disappointed that I will never see such an amazing magic trick again." I'm light on the sarcasm but he seems not to notice it.
Jonathan chuckled, "Sasha, you really ought to not be so disappointed, you make me worry." He put his arm around me, "Lets head home" I nod and we start walking down the busy city street. Jonathan was an old family friend, my legal guardian actually. He's been taking care of me since I was six years old. I was five when my mother died and just before Jonathan came to look after me, my father had disappeared. No one knows where he went, only that he's gone and has been for years.
Usually Jonathan takes me out for dinner or to the movies or something but tonight he had taken me to some sort of magic show. It wasn't too bad and was actually more of a treat. I didn't exactly believe in magic so to me it all seemed fake, unreal. I will admit, however, that the last trick with the fire was pretty convincing in how realistic it seemed. When the magician had kissed his fingers and blew fire from his mouth like a dragon when he moved his hand away.
Car horns beeped noisily all up and down the street as Jonathan and I walked on the sidewalk. He must have been talking to me and had asked a question because when I looked at him, his eyebrow is raised with a questioning look in his eyes. I frown, "Sorry, what did you say?" He sighed, "I said, Are you hungry?" Now that I think about it , I kind of am so I nod. A smile crept along his lips, "Same place as usual or somewhere different?"
"How about somewhere different?" I reply, tilting my head. He nods, "Very well. Hmm, how about that Cuban place around the corner here?" he offered, gesturing to the corner as we neared it. I smile, "Sounds good. You know, I heard their food is to die for." Jonathan laughs as we turn the corner and enter the restaurant.
Short, I know, but it's just the prologue. I promise the rest will be even better. ;)
