"YEONJUN! WAKE UP! IT'S ALREADY 7"

the boy's sleep broke in a snap.
7?! i'm gonna be late for school!

he scrambled off his bed in a hurry, splashed water on his face, brushed his teeth, and took a quick shower. he put on his uniform carelessly, rushed down the stairs—almost tripping—and gulped down the glass of milk waiting on the table. with a quick kiss on his mom's cheek, he darted out the door, hoping he'd make it on time.

oh, fate. he bumped into someone while running down the street, quickly said sorry and was about to pick up pace again, when

"yeonjun?"

he turned his head with a snap, recognising the voice. "soobin? we're supposed to be in school, what are you doing? let's go!"

"calm down, yeonjun. i was on my way, but i thought i'd wait and see if you'd show up. figured you overslept again."

yeonjun rolled his eyes before saying, "you aren't helping much by standing there, you know?"

"hey, at least i made sure you'd get here safely."

he rolled his eyes again. "mister, because of you i almost fell. plus we're wasting time by standing here and talking". his eyes travelled to his watch, immediately widening. "WE'RE GONNA BE LATE LET'S GO"

soobin's eyes widened, mirroring yeonjun's panic. "alright, alright! let's go!"

they took off together but didn't stop talking.

"you owe me lunch, soobin! if it weren't for me you'd be standing here all day!"

"fine! it's a deal!"

yeonjun tried to keep a straight face, but a smile tugged at his lips. "deal," he muttered, glancing over at soobin, who was grinning back.

they skidded around the corner and finally spotted the school gates up ahead, still open—but barely. with one last burst of speed, they darted through the gates just as the final bell echoed across the yard.

panting and a little disheveled, they stopped to catch their breath. yeonjun glanced over at soobin, a grin tugging at his lips. "made it, barely."

-

"psst!"

soobin turned around to see yeonjun calling him. "what?"

"wanna bunk?"

"it's math class, you idiot! if she catch's us- we're dead meat!"

"come on, live a little. what's the worst that could happen?"

soobin shot him a warning glare. "uh, detention, suspension, parents finding out... need i go on?"

yeonjun chuckled, tapping his pencil on the desk. "relax. we have good grades and perfect attendance. we can afford one class off."

soobin huffed, unable to resist smiling a little. "you're unbelievable."

"ye- good morning teacher!" yeonjun cut off his sentence by wishing the teacher with the rest of the class. he sat down and whisper yelled, "you could have! we had a lot of time to escape! next time be quick!"

"unbelieveable.."

soobin nudged him with his elbow, trying to stay focused as the teacher started the lesson.

-

-

ringggg!

"you, mister, are getting me lunch."

"i know, i know, let's go!"

they made their way to the cafeteria. when they finally snagged a table, yeonjun nudged soobin. "come on, don't look so serious. live a little, remember?"

soobin rolled his eyes but cracked a smile as he handed yeonjun a sandwich. "this is as much 'living' as you're getting from me today."

"by the way, mom invited you and aunt over today. she told me last night, thank god i didn't forget."

"yay! i'll be there!"

"you literally live next door. if you're not there mom will drag you and aunt in."

-

-

"soobin! yeonjun! get off your phones!"

they let out a yelp at the sudden scolding from soobin's mom.

"sorry jisoo, i didn't know soobin was like this." said soobin's mom.

"it's alright chae, yeonjun's not any better." said jisoo, yeonjun's mom. then turning to the two boys, she said, "both of you are clearly bored. get out of this house but come back before 9, okay dears?"

soobin and yeonjun exchanged glances, their faces lighting up. "yes, ma'am!" they chimed in unison, already grabbing their jackets.

"we won't be late!" yeonjun promised while soobin nodded in agreement.

it was only about 6 o' clock and the street was fairly dark. the sun had already dipped down the horizon and the street lights were on. the two had hurridley stepped out of the house but they had no idea where to go.

yeonjun slowly looked up at soobin, who was too busy fumbling with his jacket to notice.

just then yeonjun's phone ringed, displaying my buddy serim. the blonde tapped the answer button. "hey, serim! what's up?"

"hey, yawnz! i'm finally back to korea! i reached a few hours ago! see ya at school tomorrow?"

yeonjun's face lit up with excitement. "serim! finally! you have no idea how boring it's been without you around."

"yeah, yeah, i'll be in school tomorrow! let's hang out like old times!"

"of course, buddy!"

"oh, shoot. mom's calling. i'll see you tomorrow yeonjun! bye!"

"by-"

"YEONJUN, LOOK OUT!"

yeonjun barely had time to react, his heart racing as he turned just in time to see a car speeding down the road. the headlights blinded him, and before he could take a step back, a hand gripped his wrist, pulling him out of harm's way.

he stumbled slightly, breathing heavily, his heart still pounding from the close call. he found himself in soobin's arms. he lifted his head up to look at soobin, just to find that he was already looking at him, his eyes full of concern. soobin's lips were moving but yeojun couldn't hear him. he couldn't hear the honking of the cars, or see anything but soobin for that matter.

finally, the haze lifted, and he could hear soobin's voice again, though it was slightly shaky. "Are you okay?"

yeonjun's chest started to tighten, the adrenaline fading and leaving behind a strange heaviness. his breaths came quicker, shallower, and the world around him felt like it was closing in. his hands began to tremble, and he tried to steady himself, but the panic only grew. it felt like his heart was racing too fast, like he couldn't catch his breath no matter how hard he tried.

"yeonjun?" soobin's voice broke through the haze, grounding him. he held yeonjun's shoulders gently but firmly, looking straight into his eyes. "yeonjun, hey, look at me. breathe with me, okay?"

yeonjun could only nod, focusing on soobin's calm breaths as he tried to match his rhythm, feeling the tightness in his chest slowly ease. after a moment, he laughed nervously, "yea-yeah i'm fine"

"i think we should head back home. you know how panicked your mom will get about this."

yeonjun nodded and followed soobin. everytime he glanced at soobin, his heartbeat increased.

so this is how i fall in love? with a man?
that's how i fell in love with a boy, a cute boy. this is how i got trapped a storm called first love. too bad, it was only me who got caught in it.
