So before we genuinely begin to explain the lore, we need to understand first how it came to be.
And to that, it all started with me.
Around 2018 or 2019,
A user by the name of -Eleven_ had created this series called Eleven M/bs.Now to those who don't know what M/bs's are, M/bs in Wattpad stories are usually fanfics of a character in their own perspective, often times following said character around actuals events in their universe, mixed in with a few scenarios that the creator came up.
And this one was no different.
At the time, I was still young, around the age of 9 to 10, and had recently got into Stranger Things fandom for the very first time. And during that time, Stranger Things Season 2 had just ended, with Season 3 in the works. Leaving a lot of people with their own speculations and headcannon's of what's to come.
And being a curious fan, I dug deep, and I mean REAL deep into the rabbit hole of Stranger Things fanfics, from the wholesome Mileven and Lumax fics to the angsty serious AU ones, I've seen it all. But nothing could compare to the damage this fanfic had done to me. Because despite the fanfic seeming normal at first glance, it was pretty traumatizing to little old me.
Now the fanfic wasn't that bad, if anything, it was amazing. It followed the main events and wholesome scenarios through El's eyes, the roleplays about her were pretty solid in the comment section, and everything seemed good for the fanfic. It was gaining a lot of attention that the creator did deserve, and had some decent writing. So things remained peaceful and dormant for months.. Until it arrived.
Around middle or late 2019,
The creator would drop two new posts. One I can't remember the name of as it wasn't the thing that got my attention, however the other one I remembered the most between the two was labeled "Help..". At the time, the creator was signalling that this soon would be the end of things, and that the fanfic was coming to a close. But instead of ending it on a good note, and giving Eleven a good ending as she should, they decided to instead do the old bad ending trick. And as a result, it led to some traumatizing moments from my childhood. For anyone confused on why I would be traumatized or what were in the two posts, allow me to explain.
In those two posts, the story went like this.
Eleven had gone out to buy (or steal?) some eggos for whatever reason, and was walking through town. As she did, she got jumped by surprisingly The Bowers Gang out of all people and ended up getting wounded in the process. Thus as a result, she's left with a stab wound, bleeding out in the alleyway with no one to help. In the last page of the story, she begins to cough up blood and tries to call for help to no reply.
And as a kid reading that, that scared the living hell out of me.
Not for the concept of blood, or anything,
But the thought of Eleven being left alone there and bleeding out really scared me as a kid. And the fact she was coughing up blood didn't help my worry. And seeing that at a young age, and envisioning it in my mind....I thought she was dying.
No joke,
Reading that as a kid really got me fucked at the end. Cause I remember reading that for the very first time, and two main reactions I had to this ending was both panic and fear. Panic, due to Eleven coughing blood, and bleeding out with no one (except for this Mike roleplayer, and this other dude named Jack) helping her in the comment section. And fear, because I thought she was about to die in front of the viewer's eyes.I mean if you think about it, when you write a fanfic and imply your character is feeling dizzy, and starting to cough up blood while injured, you should know that it technically means automatic DEATH SENTENCE for said character. So seeing this, it doesn't take two braincells to realize that this person was most likely implying she was gonna die.
