2: Final Exam

Kafka: "Who the hell is she?!?!"

Leno: "You really don't know?"

Kafka: "I don't. Is she someone famous?"

Leno squints his eyes at Kafka and sighs tiredly.

Kikoru: "How the hell does he have a private suit? That costs way more than they look like they can afford!"

The two watch as Kikoru Shinomiya walks off into the Defence Force base. Kafka chuckles a little nervously as he once again gets scolded silently, but vigorously by Leno.

————/ Defence Force Armory /————

Mina: ".... and furthermore, we have a special guest: Berayz, from the First Division. She will also be supervising the examination."

"Berayz-dono?"

"Ah, I recognise Berayz-dono! She's part of the rumoured 'Elite Division' directly under Director General Shinomiya."

"Ahhhh is that so? Then she must be incredibly strong!"

A woman with long, flowing orange hair walked into the armory where everyone was gearing up for their final examination, displaying her kind expression. She was roughly as tall as Mina Ashiro, but her body was a bit... wider, as was the thoughts of the recruits about to undergo the examination. She wore a unique uniform that indicates her membership of the elite force, and donned a silver and red metal bo-staff. The most surprised was Kikoru.

Kikoru: 'why is Berayz-san here? Is she going to see how well I perform and report back to dad? No, she's probably here on her own.'

The environment became tense as she addressed the new recruits. Her eyes wandered across, focusing from Kikoru to Kafka, and then Kikoru again, giving her a warm smile, reciprocated by Kikoru blushing slightly. Kafka wasn't perturbed at all and proceeded to talk casually with Mina Ashiro after the address ended, calling Ashiro by her first name and immediately getting punished by her afterwards.

Everyone was tense. There were multiple Kaijus wandering in the examination area. Everyone was armed and eyed down their targets. When the start signal was given, Kikoru rushed into battle but she found herself tailing another individual.

Kikoru: "WHAT-"

Java: "Got distracted? It's a little dangerous to do that here."

Kikoru: "Don't patronise me, you just cut in front of me."

The two separated and started mowing down Kaijus.

Kafka: "Woah. Look at them go."

Leno: "Senpai! You've got to go too! You can admire them later!"

Kafka: "But that guy... he was faster than Kikoru!"

Leno: "Java... I don't know him but we need to kill some Kaijus before they're all gone!"

Kafka: "Right!"

*Couple minutes later*

—————/ Surveillance Room /—————

In the surveillance room, Captain Mina Ashiro, alongside Vice Captain Hoshina (who was cracking up the whole time) and Berayz, smiling as usual, were viewing the examination. The analysts led by Konomi were all monitoring the vitals of the recruits.

Mina: "How are the recruits doing?"

Konomi: "They are all performing well, especially Kikoru Shinomiya and Java Moss. They are currently the two best recruits and both are able to unleash 50% combat power!"
