-You are Narai Koko, I suppose? She asked.
-Yes, that's right!– Very well, here is your card. Be careful not to lose it.
— Understood !
Koko bowed and then headed towards the most prestigious academy in Korea, Aetherveil Academy. Known for its exemplary discipline, excellent grades, and beauty, today marks the first day for Narai Koko at this so-called exemplary, almost perfect academy. She took a step towards the gate when a young girl with long, beautiful chestnut hair approached her. Koko thought she looked like a third-year student; perhaps she was.– You must be Narai Koko, I suppose? she asked.
– Yes, that's me!The young girl smiled, took an object from her pocket that strangely resembled a phone, at least in appearance, approached me, and then finally spoke.
-Here is the AetherNav; it will be useful to you during your 2 years here.
-How does it work? She asked, confused.
- Finally, someone who asks the question, a bit of a change with the newcomers this year, it seems. But anyway, let's get back to the topic. The AetherNav is somewhat a portable device, but with different functionalities. To start with, it will serve as your GPS. You just have to press that button, and hop.
Suddenly, a miniature hologram appeared. The hologram depicted the academy, and we could also see our position. Mai started zooming in on areas, and we could now see different places like the main courtyard, the classrooms, etc.
-Wow, I expected anything but this! Replied Koko, surprised.
-And yet, it's not over! Replied the brunette with a smile. The AetherNav is also used to see important information about the academy, the ranking of the top students, to check out the academy's uninteresting gossip, and a whole lot of other things...
-OK, I see... But you couldn't just say it was a phone with something. Koko didn't even have time to finish her sentence; she was interrupted by the brunette.
-It's not a cellphone; it's the AetherNav, a revolutionary technology from our academy.
Koko didn't even have the strength to listen to the rest of her boring speech, and, as long as her future, she continued to look at her incredulously, hoping she would stop her speech soon.
— Hmm, otherwise, can you give me a tour?
-Oh yes, oops! By the way, my name is Tomioka Mai, and I am in my third year here.
Mai signaled for Koko to follow her, and the two of them walked through the academy's large courtyard. The hedges were perfectly trimmed, nature was very present, the benches exuded wealth at first glance, and the fountain was sublime. Further on, Koko spotted four signs, each bearing strange names. The two young girls approached the signs more closely, the engraved names indicating "Sylvermist," "Stormcliff," "Aurorawing," and "Emberfell."
-Hey, Mai, what do these names mean? She asked.
-Haven't they told you about that? Well, these are the houses in which the students are divided for various activities. For example, competitions, events, activities... Normally, you have a house that is registered on your ID card.
The second-year student then took her ID card, observed carefully, and eventually found it. The name inscribed was "Emberfell." She raised her head towards Mai, then asked curiously.
-What does "Emberfell" mean?
-According to our director, this house represents passion, the desire for different things. Each house has a meaning. For example, mine, Sylvermist, represents the envy and infinite thirst for knowledge and wisdom.
-Oh, I see...
-Aurorawing is the very definition of grace and nobility, compared to Stormcliff, who is the embodiment of power and rebellion. By the way, I advise you not to approach them, understood?
-Why on earth? She asked with a curious look.
-A lot is said about them, especially about their presidents and vice presidents. According to rumors, they killed a student.
-What-? Koko fell silent, shocked by the remarks.
— It's not true... Is it?
-The rumor is half true; a student really did die; he was found dead in their house. But we don't know the culprits, and the strangest part remains the bite marks on the student's neck.
-Don't tell me you want to get to a...
-Yes, they say there's a vampire in Aetherveil.
-But vampires don't exist; come on... Koko took on an incredulous expression once again, yet she remained shocked by the student's story.
The end of the day is approaching; the two girls meet at the starting point after a long visit. Mai grabbed a set of keys and a book. She took my hands, then gave me the book and the keychain.
-The book is just the academy's rules. I assure you, it's barely fifty pages long. Mai was interrupted by Koko's unnecessary intervention.
-What?! Fifty pages? How can a rule be so long?
-Oh, come on, it's not that bad. And for the keychain, it's just in case your ID card has a problem. She explained.
-What do you mean, there's much worse... Koko put away her keychain and kept her book in hand.-Koko, when I was talking to you about Stormcliff earlier, I was really serious about the issue of not getting close to them. At least, not to get close to 3 girls. Ryu Sarang, Choi Jungeun, and Jeong Saebi. They have already caused a lot of trouble here, both for the teachers and the students.
-I think I'll form my own opinion about them; I don't want to be influenced by rumors. As they say, you should never judge a book by its cover. Replied Koko, who seems quite determined to put her life at risk for a mere opinion.
-I would have warned you, though; if anything happens to you, contact me. I added my number to the AetherNav. The chestnut-haired girl smiled for the last time of the day, then left.
Koko watched her leave, Mai's silhouette growing fainter and fainter, leaving Koko alone at the academy gate. It is now time for her to leave as well, to return home hoping to encounter warm-hearted people. And so a new adventure began.
