january 2023 ❫

Taro stood alone on the rooftop, his gaze fixed on the horizon where the sun sank slowly behind the city skyline, painting the sky with shades of pink and orange. It was his favorite time of day—the moment when the chaos of rehearsals and schedules melted away, and everything felt still, as if the world was holding its breath.

At 23, Taro had made it. He was a star in the K-pop industry, adored by fans, respected by his colleagues. His face, always radiant with energy, was now softened by the fading light. He adjusted his hoodie, tugging at the strings until they were even, the familiar ritual comforting.

He smiled to himself. Years ago, before his debut, this moment would have been filled with anxiety, the need for things to be perfect gnawing at him like an itch he couldn't scratch. His world had once been governed by routines, compulsions, the constant need to align every thought, every action, every detail just right. The rhythm of his life, back then, was defined by an invisible set of rules that kept him prisoner.

But now, as winter's evening breeze brushed against his skin, Taro felt free.

It had taken years to understand his mind, to accept the way it worked, to find ways to live with his obsessive thoughts without letting them control him. Therapy. Support. And, most importantly, learning to embrace the parts of himself that others might see as flaws.

He didn't mind that the folds of his jacket had to be perfectly aligned, or that he often rearranged his things to feel settled. Those habits didn't feel like a burden anymore—they were his anchors, the little things that gave him peace amidst the relentless pace of his career. He had found ways to work around the more intense compulsions, ways to carve out moments of balance in his otherwise busy life.

The sunset stretched before him, a vibrant reminder of the beauty in imperfection. The sky, like his life, was never flawless. It was constantly shifting, constantly changing, and that was okay.

Taro's phone buzzed in his pocket, a message from his manager reminding him of the evening's schedule. He sighed, but there was no frustration in it, only a quiet acceptance. The pressure of his job, the expectations of being an idol—it all still existed, but it no longer overwhelmed him. He'd found a rhythm.

He took a deep breath, inhaling the cool air. "Tomorrow's a new day," he whispered to himself, his voice lost in the wind. He could already feel the beat of the next performance in his chest, a steady pulse, comforting in its familiarity.

As the sun finally disappeared behind the buildings, Taro felt a quiet sense of contentment. There was still work to be done, still dreams to chase, but for the first time in his life, he knew he could handle whatever came next.

Because, somehow, he had found peace in the chaos.

And that was enough
