The sun hung low, casting a soft, amber glow over the small street, as if it too was reluctant to let the day end. A little girl stood there, her eyes lowered, trying to steady her trembling voice.
"I'm going," she whispered, her words almost lost in the gentle breeze. She tried to keep her tears at bay, but the weight of sadness in her heart was evident. Her tiny shoulders drooped under the sorrow of the moment, and it took everything in her not to break down.
The little boy standing beside her looked equally devastated. His voice was thick with emotion as he replied, "I'll miss you." The words came out in a choked whisper, filled with a longing that made his heart ache. She was his world, his best friend, his partner in every adventure. He couldn’t imagine a day without her laugh, her smile, her presence.
"Please don’t be sad," she said softly, her own heart breaking as she tried to comfort him. She knew her leaving was hurting him, but she couldn’t bear the thought of him being miserable in her absence.
"When will you come back?" he asked, his voice wavering as he clung to a hope he could barely voice. She was like the air he breathed; without her, life felt hollow. How could he be okay without her by his side?
Just then, her father's voice echoed from the house. "Beta, let’s go! We’re getting late!" he called, waiting with an anxious glance toward her.
The little girl turned to her friend, a fierce maturity and love glimmering in her eyes despite her young age. "Take care, okay?" she said gently. "Don’t cry when I’m gone. Eat your meals on time, don’t bother uncle and aunty, and… make new friends. Promise me you’ll stay happy and healthy."
She spoke with the wisdom of someone far beyond her years, her love for him giving her the strength to say these words. She knew that if she allowed herself to cry, he would too, and their hearts would both shatter under the weight of their sadness.
He blinked back tears, ignoring her advice, and whispered, "Call me… when you’re free." He couldn’t stop a tear from slipping down his cheek, betraying his longing. He didn’t want to let her go; he wanted to spend every moment, every second with her. She was his happiness, and he couldn’t bear the thought of her absence.
She nodded, biting her lip to keep her own tears from falling. "Hmm... bye. See you soon," she said, barely managing to hold her voice steady as she turned to leave. Just as she took a step toward her house, he called out, "Kittu!"
She paused, turning back to him. "Hmm?"
With a hesitant smile and a touch of nervousness, he extended his hand, revealing a small handmade locket. Inside the locket, he’d encased fresh mint leaves, held carefully in a delicate shell of liquid. The light caught it, making it shimmer like a tiny, magical gem. Her eyes filled with tears as she took it from him, knowing how much it meant.
"Thank you… so much," she whispered, clutching it close to her heart as she pulled him into a tight hug. The warmth of his embrace was a bittersweet comfort, and she closed her eyes, capturing this moment forever in her memory.
"Kittu bitiya, chaliye. Sahab bula rahe hain," the family’s caretaker urged gently, standing nearby.
"Haan, chaliye," she replied, her voice barely audible. As she walked away, she cast one last look over her shoulder, her eyes meeting his. A soft whisper floated on the wind. "Take care…kishu .. bye."
And with that, she disappeared down the path, leaving him standing there, clutching the memory of her warmth and the promise of their friendship tightly in his heart.

Jati nahi aankhon se Surat Teri
Na jaanti hai dil se mohabbat teri.
Tere jaane ke baad hota hai mehsoos yu
Humein aur bhi zyada hai zaroorat teri...🤌🏻🥀_________________🐻_________________
