Three days, and 9 hrs, that's how long she had survived being married to her arch enemy - Murtasim Khan. Meerab huffed as she walked along the terrace in the early morning sun. They had managed to co-exist for 3 full days, barring the fight on their Walima night. It was so strange that they were living together in one room as a married couple and hadn't killed each other yet. Earlier, just being in the same house as him would have resulted in at least two arguments a day. that she was used to! This calm, collected Murtasim was so...mysterious, Meerab couldn't get a handle on him. Not that she had started any fights, he hadn't been home most of the day, thankfully. If she had to spend 24×7 with him, then she would have surely lost her mind.
Meerab took a deep breath, savoring the crisp morning air and a few moments of peace before the day was ruined by the dragon, aka Maa Begum and her loyal little soldier Haya. Honestly, if it wasn't for her mother in law's constant watchful eye and Haya staring daggers at her, she could almost bear living her in the haveli but sadly that wasn't the case so she came here before meeting any family members. It helped maintain some resemblance of peace for her.
Murtasim stared at Meerab as she raised her face to the sun, seemingly peaceful as she enjoyed her morning walk. He had made it a point to keep his distance from her the past few days. She had enough to adjust without adding his proximity to the mix. He didn't want to force his company on her. He was contemplating his approach when the maid came with the coffees he had asked for. He motioned for her to set it on the table. She nodded and left quietly.
Murtasim walked on the terrace and cleared his throat. Meerab turned to look at him, her eyebrows raised in question.
"Coffee?" He asked, indicating the cups.
Meerab narrowed her eyes. "Mere liye?"
"Nahin...tumhe un kabutaron ko pilane keh raha hoon." He said.
Meerab rolled her eyes. "No need to be sarcastic. It's hard to believe you would make coffee for anyone."
Murtasim sighed. "Maine nahi banayi. Ab piyogi ya aur koi sawal karne hain?"
"Obviously, tumhe thodi na kitchen pata hoga."
"Meerab.. Coffee piyogi ya nahin?" Murtasim asked through his teeth. Just what was it about her? She managed to rile him up in no time.
"Nahi! aur waise bhi tum mere saath coffee kyun peena chahte ho? aaj se pehle to kabhi to nahi kiya?" Meerab asked, crossing her arms.
Murtasim sighed, "Wo kya hai na...kafi dino se ladai nahi ki, life bahot peaceful lag rahi thi toh socha kyun na tumhare saath baith kar apna mood kharab kar lun" he said, sarcasm dripping from each word.
"Zyada attitude dikhane ki zarurat nahi hai. Maine nahi kaha tha yahan aao." Meerab shot back and turned away from him.
Murtasim contemplated just leaving from there, but they had to start talking sometime. He took a deep breath and changed his approach, knowing Meerab won't respond to any sensible way. She was already riled up. All he needed was a little push, so he said the one thing he knew she couldn't resist.
"Itna natak karne ki kya zarurat hai, sidha sidha kehdo ke tum darti ho ke kahin meri company tumhe acchi na lag jaye." Murtasim said.
She turned around to look at him at that, her eyes flashing, and chin lifted. "Main kisi se nahi darti Murtasim, aur tumhari company enjoy karun, itne bhi bure din nahi aaye mere."
"Accha?"
"Jee haan!" she said, leaning on the balcony railing.
Murtasim picked up the cup and walked towards her, close - so that only a few inches remained between them. He caged her between his body and the railing, his hands on either side of her as he placed the cup on the ledge. "Prove it," he said, nodding towards the coffee.
