The Curse

Today when i arrived to the house I knew something was different, I have never felt like this before and when I saw her I knew…

“Hi” a little girl said to me

“Hi, what are you doing here; I have never seen anyone wonder around here, I am always alone…” I answered

“Well I live here so it would be normal for me to wonder around” She said while she chuckled.

“Bu-but this house is abandoned” I stuttered a little bit confused.

“Nop!” she said while smiling, “Do you want to come in?”

I hesitated while I gave my answer, even thought she seemed nice something was wrong, but there was no way she was the cause of it, she was about seven years old, blond and blue eyed, too naïve to be dangerous.

“Sure I would love to” I said after thinking

“Great! The house will be so happy!”

As we entered to the front yard everything changed, the green beautiful yard you could see from outside suddenly became grey, odd and scary. This was too weird so I decided to go home, but as I turned around to excuse myself to the little young girl I found myself talking to a little old lady… “Sorry ma’am, but where did the little girl went?” I asked terrified.

“What are you talking about, im right here honey” The woman said with a voice so sweet it made me shiver.

“Wh-what?” I said trying to hide my fear. However the old lady kept talking, “You know it has been a long time since a young handsome man like you came here” She said to me with a little smirk marked on her face. “What do you mean?! I’m sorry ma’am but I have to get going” I told her while trying to open the gate, by my surprise, it was locked.

“You really thought the way out would be so easy?” She asked while dragging me into the house -damn she was strong- Inside the house I was amazed I’ve never been anywhere like this before, it looked so… old. We arrived to a door that looks like a closet… was she going to lock me up? “You’ll only end up here if you don’t find the way out before sunset” She said reading my mind, but did she really thought it was normal to lock up your guests, however I didn’t got the chance to argue since I as to shocked with the thing inside the closet, people, dead people piled up. “Aww so sad they never got the chance to get out” she said while faking a sob, “It would be lovely for you to break the curse don’t you think?” she added smiling. I haven’t been talking for a while now but a curse, what did she meant? “What curse?” I asked gathering all my strength so thje words would come out. With the biggest smile she started talking.

“Long time ago I was cursed, well not only me, the house too and since then I have to get people in the house so they find the way out” I’m sure she noticed the confusion look on my face because she continued, “The curse can only be broken if an outsider finds the exit before sunset, and that my dear is where you appear. You see if you don’t get out the house will eat you” I swear I’m going to get a heart attack, me? Break a curse? Was she nuts! This has to be some kind of twisted joke, there is no way this could be true. My thoughts were interrupted when the old lady said one simple word that changed everything…

“Go”

Everything was true, why did I had to be wondering around here?!” While running I noticed the mansion - I refused to call it a house, this “house” was too big to deserve that name- was huge! If it looked big from the outside it was ten times bigger inside.

I am so tired, I have no idea how many hours have past, nor how many doors I have opened. I knew I hadn’t past the exit yet because in every door there was a body, I suppose they were there when the mansion “ate” them… God I have to get out, if I did die here what would my tombstone say “Eaten by a house” That would be just lovely… After ages of running, I found the door; there was no body inside it, score. As I entered I saw stairs, many stairs. When I finally arrived to the top I saw two more doors, this is just perfect… Since I knew I wouldn’t find a body in any door I decided to trust my gut and went for the right one… I love my instinct; this door led me to a small spot outside the gate! Running as fast as I could away from that mansion I saw a fire, the huge house I saw one minute ago was almost gone, it was ash now, that’s when I saw her, the little girl from outside the gate, smiling right at me from the window, and moments later she was gone.

When I got to my house I started looking for my mom, dad and sister, no one was home. When I went to look in their rooms I saw them, dead, my parents in their room and my sister in hers. That’s when it hit me, the woman wanted me to break the curse not only so she could be free, but so she could infect someone else, eventually the curse never broke, once you have it you become mortal so you can’t die with it and when a person gets out of the house gets infected, a never ending circle. That’s why my family is dead, when I got the curse my house ate them, it was past sunset.  I refuse to believe this, but as I took a glance at the mirror I didn’t saw my normal young face that was there this morning, instead I saw the face of an old wrinkled man, and with the curse you become old in your house but young outside so you can get people inside it.

Now I am part of this twisted little game, I have the curse.
