2 Months After the Crash

Jimmy sat at the main table with his four crew mates, Anya, Swansea, Daisuke, and [Name]. Swansea was the mechanic of the Tulpar while Daisuke was his intern. Anya was the nurse, and [Name] was her intern.

Jimmy looked at the four of them, “Anyone else would do the same thing.” Swansea rolled his eyes, “We ain’t touching the damn cargo. The hold is locked down for a reason. The only thing worse than dyin’ slowly is not gettin’ paid.” he stated.

Anya spoke up softly, “But it could be something useful. I think-” “Could be what? Hopes, deams, and marzipan? Hah!” Swansea crossed his arms and shook his head. Anya frowned slightly, “You don’t have to…” Jimmy sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, “If it helps us survive it’s worth it.”

[Name] stayed silent while looking down at her lap, fidgeting with the horseshoe shaped clasp on her belt. That was until Daisuke spoke up while leaning back in the chair, “Man. Pony Express bosses really aren’t chill at all, huh?” He looked over at Swansea, “C’mon, a quick look won’t hurt.”

The older man grumbled, “How exactly is this group therapy committee planning on gettin’ in there?” Daisuke smirked and sat up with his chest puffed out, “Oh, right here, boss! You’re looking at the meanest swing of the regional junior baseball team.” He sighed with a smile as he shook his head, “Straight up nearly corked a kid once! I can take the utility axe and-”

Swansea’s face contorted with irritation, “You were goddamn born fully corked!”

Jimmy rested a hand on the table, “That’s enough, Swansea,” Jimmy sighed and looked at everyone, specifically [Name], “There has to be an “in case of emergency” way inside.” [Name] sat up, “If I remember correctly from the safety protocols… The doors should have an alternate access code, but it can only be uncovered using a code scanner device.”

“And only the captain has access to the scanner.” Jimmy pointed out. Swansea scoffed, “Of course! Go ahead and ask him all about it then. Maybe he’ll sing ya the blues, too.” Jimmy glared at Swansea, “We don’t need him if we find the scanner, get the code, and open the hold.”

“For better or worse, I’m captain now.”

Jimmy sat back with a ghost of a smile, “I’ll figure it out.” Daisuke grinned, “Right on!”

Everyone got up from their seats and went to their respective places until Jimmy found the code scanner. When he got up, he took a good look around. Insulation foam that was automatically discharged when the hull breached. It blocked off the compromised parts of the ship and kept everyone alive.

The large screen that projected a sunset that is forever glitched to stay there illuminated the entire room, giving it a warm yet confusing environment to this area. Jimmy spotted Daisuke on one of the seats right in front of the screen and walked up to him.

Daisuke looked up at the man, “Looks like it’ll be soup again for dinner,” he smiled slightly, “You wanna rock paper scissors for the chicken noodle?” Jimmy placed his hands on his hips, “How much food do we have left?” “Eh… I’d say about 4 months-ish?” Daiskue replied.

Jimmy thought about it, “Hmm. Less than the remaining air supply, but we can make it last. In theory. We’ll be starting to poke new holes in our belts pretty soon to pull that off.” Daisuke relaxed in the cushion, “Man. My mom will straight up stuff me when I get back. I’ll look like Swansea!” he laughed. “We’ll have a rad story to tell, though. They might even write articles about us. We could be on TV!”

Jimmy stayed silent at Daisuke’s last remark and looked away. Daisuke gave him a confused glance before shrugging. The silence was awkward, and Jimmy felt even more uncomfortable, “Uh.. it’ll impress the ladies, too.” Daisuke smirked at the idea, “Hell yeah! The real problem is us running out of toilet paper. Fatal stuff, man.” he pushed his hair back, “We should leave that part out for the press.”
