My head felt like it was filled with sand, heavy and sluggish, each thought trudging through an unbearable weight. The last thing I remembered was racing to Aunt Maria’s house after receiving that call. I could still hear the chilling voice on the other end as clearly as if he were standing next to me.

  Flashback

“Hello? Who’s this?” I had asked, trying to steady my voice despite the fear creeping into my chest.

“Elena, my sweet daughter,” the voice replied, a mocking edge woven into his smooth tone. It was like cold fingers wrapping around my spine. “Don’t you recognize me? But then, how could you? You haven’t heard from your father since you were born. Your mother worked so hard to keep me away.”

My heart stopped. A part of me already knew who it was, but my mind refused to accept it. “Emilio?” I whispered, feeling the bile rise in my throat. I clenched my fist, my voice sharpening as anger overtook fear. “What do you want, and how dare you call yourself my father? You’re not my father!”

He laughed, a slow, sinister sound that seemed to echo in my bones. “Unfortunately, I am. I’m the one who pounded that sweet pussy of your mother everyday back then , no matter how much your mother tried to erase me. But let’s get to the point, shall we? I want you to come to me willingly, Elena. Your precious fiancé has been getting in my way, and I’d hate for anything… unfortunate to happen to him. Or to anyone else you care about.”

My fists tightened, nails digging into my palms as I fought to keep my voice steady. “I’d rather die than join you. I want nothing to do with you, so go to hell, Emilio.”

Another laugh, deeper this time, cold and dripping with malice. “Ah, I expected this from you. Fiery, just like your mother. But I have something that will make you change your mind, my dear. Something that will bring you running straight to me.”

“What?” My voice wavered, the defiance beginning to fray.

“Patience, Elena. That’s no way to talk to your father,” he said, as if reprimanding a misbehaving child. “Didn’t your mother or Aunt Maria teach you any manners?” His voice shifted slightly as if he were addressing someone else in the room. “Maria, you and your friend have ruined my daughter. She’s so… disrespectful.”

The words hit me like ice water. “Emilio… Aunt Maria? What’s she doing there? Why is she with you?” My voice cracked, panic rising with each word.

“Oh, no, no, Elena,” he replied smoothly. “I’m actually sitting in her house. She was talking too much, so I had to silence her.”
