APASRA LERTPRASERT

"It's time..." the old woman said in a chilling manner.

"What do you mean, 'it's time'?" I asked,  my voice trembling.

Her smile widened, revealing her set of teeth that were too sharp and too white.

"You know..." she trails. "...you've been dreaming of it, haven't you?  The truth that lies buried deep within your soul."

My heart beats drumming inside my rib cage as I stare at her piercing eyes.

Those nightmares...where she —

"N-No...no.." I stammered. "I-It can't be t-true.  It's— It's just a d-dream."

She chuckled.

"Dreams are powerful things, child," she said.  "They can reveal truths that we try to hide from ourselves."

She leaned closer, her eyes piercing mine with an unnerving intensity.

"You are the key, Apasra...you hold the power to save the world, but it will cost you everything."

"W-what do you want from me? What is the truth that you're talking about?"

Her smile faded, her eyes hardening.

"The truth is a burden, child," she said.  "A burden that you must bear.  Your death is unavoidable, and it will save countless lives."

Anger surged through me.  I refused to believe that my death was  unavoidable, that my life was nothing more than a sacrifice.

"No," I said, my voice rising in defiance.  "I won't let you control me.  I won't let you decide my fate, you are nothing but an illusion!"

Her eyes narrowed, her smile returning, but this time it was a cruel, mocking grin.

"You have no choice, child..." she said, her voice laced with malice.  "The truth will set you free, but it will also destroy you."

Suddenly the room becomes darker, creepier like the shadows were already crowded this small space.
The old woman was standing infront of me. All I could see is her silhouette against the faint moonlight filtering through the window.

The air smelled familiar, like metal and something rotten.  It was the same smell I'd been dreaming about.  Like death.

I tried to move, to yell, but I couldn't.  It was like I was stuck, tied down by something invisible.  The woman's eyes, they were like black holes, staring right into me, trying to figure me out.

"It's time, child..." she trails.  "The sacrifice has to happen."

"N-No..." I gasped.  "Please, d-don't... I don't want to d-die." tears started to form in my eyes.

She chuckled, a dry, rasping sound that echoed in the silent room.

"Death is not the end, child," she said.  "It is a beginning.  A new life, a new purpose...but I hope...that it's the end of it all..." I saw a glint of sadness in her eyes, hidden behind her demonic glare.

She gripped the shiny thing tighter, and I felt a sharp pain in my chest.  It felt like someone was squeezing my heart with an iron fist.

"I'm sorry, Apasra...this is for the greater good..."

Her eyes, cold and hard, met mine for a brief moment, and like a while ago, I saw a flicker of something in their depths, a hint of sadness, of regret.  But it was gone as quickly as it appeared, replaced by the same cold intent.

She leaned closer, her breath hot against my face.

"Don't be afraid..." she whispered.  "It will be quick."
