Asa's POVThe sun had just begun to dip below the horizon, casting a warm, golden glow across the city. The noise of the day was fading, replaced by the soft hum of evening — the kind of quiet that only comes after everything has been put to rest.
I stood at the edge of the balcony, my hand resting lightly on the railing, feeling the cool evening breeze against my skin. From here, the sprawling city below seemed distant, almost dreamlike, as if the world had shrunk to just the two of us — me and Chiquita.
I turned my head to find her standing beside me, her eyes sparkling in the twilight. There was a certain peace in her presence now, an ease I had once thought impossible to find. A peace I had found within myself, because of her.
Her fingers brushed mine, and she smiled, her touch warm and steady, grounding me in a way I hadn't known I needed.
"This place," she said softly, looking out over the city. "It feels like home now."
I nodded. "I think it always did."
It had been six months since the night we finally let go of our fears, since we made the choice to be more than just two people with messy histories. We'd worked through so much together, learning how to navigate the fragile beauty of love, the kind that wasn't afraid of imperfection.
We'd spent months unraveling our hearts, piecing together a relationship that felt real — not flawless, but beautiful in its rawness.
"I've been thinking," I said, my voice quiet, unsure of how to put the words into the world.
Chiquita tilted her head, her eyes curious. "What about?"
"About us. About what we've built." I paused, taking a deep breath. "I used to be so afraid of losing control. Afraid that if I gave too much, there wouldn't be anything left for me. But you... you've taught me that love isn't about control. It's about trust. About being open to the unknown."
She stepped closer, her gaze never leaving mine. "You're not afraid anymore?"
I shook my head, a small smile tugging at my lips. "No. Not when I'm with you."
Chiquita's eyes softened, and her fingers gently cupped my face, her touch like the softest promise. "I'm not going anywhere, Asa. I never will. Not as long as you'll have me."
I felt a surge of emotion — tenderness, gratitude, the deep certainty that this was where I was meant to be. There was no more fear, no more second-guessing.
"I'll always have you," I whispered, leaning into her touch. "You've already given me everything I didn't know I needed."
She kissed me then, slow and deep, the kind of kiss that said everything the words couldn't quite capture.
When we pulled apart, I rested my forehead against hers, both of us breathing in the night air, feeling as though everything had come full circle.
"Together, we're enough," she said softly.
I closed my eyes, nodding. "Yes. We are."
Chiquita's POV
The moon was rising now, its soft light spilling over us, and for a moment, the world felt still, as though time had paused just for us. Asa and I stood there, in the quiet of the evening, surrounded by the sounds of the city, but lost in our own little world.
It hadn't been an easy road. The twists and turns, the misunderstandings, the fears we had both carried — but we had weathered it all. And what was left was something that felt stronger than any of the things we had feared: a love built on trust, vulnerability, and a shared belief that we could handle whatever came next, together.
I reached out, taking her hand in mine, and we both turned back toward the apartment. The space that had once felt like just four walls now felt like home, filled with the warmth of our shared moments, the quiet comfort of knowing that we had each other, no matter what.
"There's something I want to show you," I said, my voice light but laced with excitement.
Asa raised an eyebrow, a playful smile curling at the corner of her lips. "What is it?"
I didn't answer right away, just led her inside to the living room, where I'd spent the afternoon setting up. Candles flickered on the coffee table, casting a soft glow over the room.
A bottle of wine sat open on the counter, a glass waiting for each of us. It was simple — but everything felt meaningful now.
I turned to Asa, my heart full. "I've been thinking... we've come so far. And I want to make sure that no matter what happens, we always remember how far we've come. How far we've grown."
"What do you mean?" she asked, eyes narrowing playfully as she stepped closer.
I smiled, reaching into my pocket. I pulled out a small box, the velvet exterior reflecting the candlelight in the room. Asa's eyes widened in surprise, and she froze.
"Chiquita... what's this?"
"Something that says I'm here. Always," I said, opening the box. Inside, nestled in the soft velvet, was a delicate silver bracelet, engraved with the words: Always, Asa.
"I've been thinking about what it means to truly commit to someone," I said softly, lifting the bracelet from the box. "And this... this is my promise to you. That no matter what happens in the future, no matter the challenges, we are in this together. Always."
Tears welled in Asa's eyes as she reached for the bracelet. She didn't speak for a moment, but the emotion in her gaze said everything.
"Chiquita..." she whispered. "I don't have the words... but I'll wear this forever. And I promise you, we'll always be together. No matter what."
She held out her wrist, and I gently clasped the bracelet around her arm. The silver caught the light as she turned her wrist, the engraving shining softly.
I kissed her then, feeling the weight of the promise settle between us — a promise not of perfection, but of love. A love that didn't need to be fixed, only embraced.
"Always," I whispered against her lips.
Asa's POV
I closed my eyes, feeling her breath warm against my skin, and for the first time, I wasn't afraid. For the first time, I knew with absolute certainty that this love we had built wasn't fragile. It was strong, rooted in everything we had shared — the mistakes, the joys, the quiet moments, and the loud ones.
We were enough. Together, we were more than enough.
As Chiquita held me close, I thought about how far we had come. And I knew, without a doubt, that whatever came next, I would face it with her by my side. We had made our peace, found our place, and in the end, love was the only thing that mattered.
