Until he saw her.
A girl with ocean-blue eyes, wide and haunted, looking like they held storms of their own, but also a quiet innocence that struck him deep. She was like light cutting through the darkness, and he knew that no matter the cost, he would protect her.

"Why do you love me, Shrey?" she asked.
He took her hand, bringing it to his chest, right over his heart. "Do you know why we breathe, jaan?" he murmured, his gaze softening as he looked at her. "Do you know why our hearts beat?"
He leaned closer, his forehead resting against her."It's not because we choose to," he said, his thumb brushing over her knuckles. "It's because without it, we'd stop existing. You’re the breath that fills my lungs, the pulse that keeps me alive. Loving you isn't something I choose, jaan. It’s what my soul does on its own, even when my mind isn’t aware of it. Every beat of my heart is yours, With you, I'm finally alive."
