Kagami x reader

Everything was just miserable.

Inflamed blood vessels constricted airflow through your nostrils and while you could breathe through your mouth, it'd only make you salivate more which you had to push down a sore and scratchy throat.

Your limbs were fatigued, and your body ached. Who would've thought all of this could've started from getting caught in the rain without an umbrella. If you had the energy you'd be cursing the universe right now, but you only had the energy to close your eyes and imitate a dead body.

The sound of your bedroom door caught your attention, but your eyes stayed closed. "..Mom?" You strained to get the words out. "You're back already?"

She'd been checking on you periodically and replacing the damp towel on your head. The last time she popped her head in she told you she'd be making a trip to the store for some tea and herbs to help your fever, which wasn't that long ago.

"It's me."

His familiar voice urged your eyes to open and turn your head towards the door. "Kagami.. How'd you–"

"Your brother let me in." He approached to sit on the edge of your bed and placed a plastic bag on your nightstand beside the bowl of water. "How're you feeling?" Kagami removed the cloth from your head to feel your temperature for himself.

The coldness of his hand briefly comforted and remedied your internal inferno, so it bothered you when he put the cloth back after refreshing it. "Like I ran a sweaty marathon in winter. So basically, like shit."

"Yeah, well that's what happens when you don't carry an umbrella."

"Did you just come here to chastise me?" Despite your lack of strength you glared at with made him smirk a little.

"I came to help you feel better." Kagami took medicine from the bag and a sports drink. "Have you been getting enough fluids?"

"My mom actually left not too long ago to for more tea and–" A phlegmy cough left your mouth, but you covered in time inside your elbow. All this talking was making your throat dry.

"Here."

You slowly sat up took two pills from here while he opened the sports drink for you. After a few painful sips the medicine was down your throat, but you still took more to quench your thirst.

"Thanks." You returned it to him and he covered it up to put back in the bag. "What'd you guys do at practice today?"

As the basketball manager the team had been on your mind practically the whole day; which training menus they performed, their growth and need for improvement, how their spirits were.

Kagami would've preferred for you to focus on getting better, but he knew an answer would help someone like you. He filled you in and in detail, which satisfied you. Things seemed to have went smoothly and while you grateful, something within pulsed with inadequacy.

"I'm glad.. Things went smoothly then. I'm surprised you didn't blow like a fuse."

"I don't–" He quickly fired up, but released a begrudging sigh and looked off to the side. "Whatever."

His development made you smile and tuck your knees into your chest.

"What're you smiling at?" He was looking at you again.

"I'm smiling?"

"Yeah, you weirdo." He squeezed your cheeks with one hand.

"Is smiling something weird now," you asked with a smushed face.

Kagami released your face to ease the back of his neck as a tinge of pink coated his ears, but somehow he managed to keep his eyes on you. "It.. wasn't the same without you there."

And here you were feeling a little unneeded. "I'd better build up my strength then," you spoke like it couldn't be helped. "I wouldn't want you lonely there without me." If only he knew how much his words made your heart swell in indescribable ways.

Surprisingly he didn't respond in some kind of deflection or awkward embarrassment. Instead he stared intently at you in a way that made you feel so exposed that it was impossible protect yourself. Even so, under his gaze there was always an unspoken promise present, like an unwavering security blanket. And you always have one right back.

Although it'd only been a day you still missed the team, but more than anything you missed Kagami.

He leaned towards you with one thought in mind until a hand lightly pressed on his chest. "How will you play if you get sick?"

"You just took medicine." His hand covered yours.

"It doesn't work that quick, you dummy."

"I'll take some later."

"Kagami.." As much as you cared about his health, you had every urge to kiss his cute face and his eyes were melting at your self control. "..Just one."

The gap between you slowly closed. He watched you with an intense gaze while you anticipated the soft comfort of his lips through half-lidded eyes. His cheek provided warmth to your palm as you held it, bringing him closer to you.

"This is how diseases spread."

The extra voice separated you two at lightening speed, and the culprit was your younger brother who leaned on the door frame from the hallway with his arms crossed.

If only the door had been closed.

"Y-you brat! Get out of my room!" The blatant heat that invaded your face betrayed any attempt to make demands.

"I'm not in your room," he taunted. And technically he wasn't.

You grabbed a pillow to throw at him, but he closed the door in time and it fell to the floor. Embarrassment slowly left your system as you thought what could've happened between you and Kagami. Sure, you kissed before, but they didn't happen so often especially with this much build up.

Maybe this just meant that it didn't need to happen right now.

Or so you thought before Kagami pulled you from your thoughts by stealing any words you were considering to say. Your eyes fluttered close as you leaned into him and reciprocated the warmth conjured specially for you.

When he pulled away you couldn't help but stare with starry eyes.

Kagami smiled bashfully. "Sorry, I couldn't help myself."
