Sunlight blazed upon Seunghan's face and he squinted against it, slowly opening his eyes that morning. He was lying on his back now and he turned his head, Sohee fast asleep, his nose dewy under the morning light. Seunghan smiled. Sohee's scruffy hair was a mess and all he wanted to do was hold him.
For once, Sohee had let him sleep in the same bed with him, so different from at home when Seunghan would visit Sohee and Anton's shared dorm and roll around on his bed to annoy him before finally getting kicked out. No, this time, they slept together.
Seunghan peered outside, the pine trees now visibly heavy with snow, crisp in the morning sunshine, suddenly, a whole lot less scary than the darkness of the night.
"Seunghan," mumbled Sohee in front of him.
Seunghan met his groggy eyes as Sohee rubbed his head and stretched.
"Morning'."
"That—I slept good," Sohee said.
"I'm glad." Seunghan tickled underneath Sohee's chin.
The two slowly woke up that Saturday morning, dressing and washing up, making their way downstairs to the kitchen. Sohee clambered around in the fridge, deciding on eggs and rice, which was about all they had for food stock. He started to work, frying eggs and cooking rice. Seunghan brewed a pot of dark roast, the aroma of coffee beans and fried egg and butter dancing in the air.
"I really hope the members can get in this morning, now that it's cleared up," Sohee said, flipping an egg.
"They should, unless something bad happened." Seunghan said, taking a sip of coffee. "I just have a feeling something happened. Unless, something went wrong for me."
"No, they'll be fine."
Sohee plated their breakfast and the two sat in a little nook by the far window, eating, and enjoying the view in silence. It was so strange. Seunghan suddenly felt like the two of them were on a getaway honeymoon or something, or like an old couple living off-grid in the woods. It was different.
But in this silent, distraction-free zone, Seunghan could actually see Sohee. Peer at him above his coffee and watch as his hair stuck up at odd angles, his little freckles in the morning sun. He was so beautiful. He wished he could see him this clearly every single day.
After eating, Seunghan cleaned the dishes and Sohee, already half-dressed in his snow attire, shouted from the front door.
"Let's go outside! Fresh snow!"
Seunghan agreed, quickly dressing in snow boots and his parka and beanie, heading outside. The frosty air nipped him, a gentle wind blowing tendrils of soft snow across the driveway. Sohee smiled, running out and dancing in the endless white.
"It's so beautiful!" Sohee spun, picking up powder and throwing it in the air.
You're beautiful.
The two walked, arms linked, down the driveway, skipping. Tall, stick-straight pines wobbled in the wind, chunks of white snow falling off, soft powder blowing at Seunghan's face. He kept rubbing his probably now red nose.
"You look like a reindeer," Seunghan giggled.
Sohee's eyes widened. "Hey! You look like Rudolph."
"My skin can't handle this cold! Actually, none of me can! My skin is going to be so angry later."
"Oh your such a diva, it's such a nice day for a walk."
And despite the encroaching cold and bitter wind, it was. Honestly, Seunghan couldn't wish for anything more.
