The days that followed were filled with confusion, fear, and a growing sense of something strange happening to them. Jaz was the first to notice that his telekinesis was becoming stronger. Objects seemed to move with just a thought, and he couldn't help but experiment with it. At first, it was small things—a cup sliding across the table, a door creaking open without his hand on the handle—but soon, the power seemed to take on a life of its own.
Georgia, on the other hand, began experiencing vivid visions of things that hadn't happened yet. The first time it happened, she saw a car accident before it occurred, and it terrified her. "I saw it. I knew it was going to happen," she said, her voice shaking. "I saw everything." It took her a while to realize that these visions weren't just dreams or coincidences—they were real. And they were growing stronger.
Ky'lani's abilities, too, began to manifest. She discovered that she could influence people's thoughts, bending their will with just a look. At first, she used it only to stop fights among her siblings, but soon, she realized how dangerous this power could be. "I can make people do things," she said softly, her voice filled with wonder and fear. "I don't know how far I can take it, but I can make them believe anything."
Cyrus, the youngest, was the last to show any signs of a power. It started small—he could hear things others couldn't, like whispers in the wind or distant footsteps. But as time went on, his senses grew sharper, and he could feel people's emotions from miles away. "It's like I can sense everything," he told Jaz one night, his voice barely a whisper. "I know when someone's lying, or when something bad is about to happen."
The sound of the approaching vehicle grew louder, and the tension in the car reached its breaking point. Gabby's hands gripped the steering wheel with a white-knuckled intensity, her foot pressing the accelerator as though it could outrun whatever was chasing them. Jaz felt his pulse quicken. He couldn't ignore it any longer—David and his associates were closing in on them. This was no longer a simple flight for safety; it had become a battle for survival.
The car zipped through the alleyways, swerving between parked cars and narrowly avoiding other vehicles. Gabby's sharp instincts were guiding them, but they couldn't outrun the inevitable. Jaz glanced back and saw a dark, ominous SUV following them, its headlights glaring like the eyes of a predator. The driver seemed to be skilled, matching their every turn, gaining on them with every second.
Jaz's heart skipped a beat. "They're getting closer," he said, his voice tight with fear. "What are we going to do?" Gabby's eyes flickered with a hint of desperation, but her voice remained calm. "We need to find a way to fight back. I can't outrun them forever."
In the midst of the chase, Jaz felt the familiar tug again—the strange magnetic sensation that had first pulled him into the diner. This time, it was more intense, more urgent. Without thinking, he reached out his hand, and a strange force rippled through the air. He didn't know how or why, but suddenly, the SUV behind them jerked to the side, its wheels skidding out of control. The car swerved, spinning out of control before crashing into a lamppost.
Gabby slammed on the brakes, bringing the car to a screeching halt. The sudden silence was deafening. Jaz looked out the rearview mirror in shock. The SUV was now a twisted heap of metal, but their escape hadn't been without consequence. He could feel the weight of his power, but it was exhausting. He had no idea how long he could keep this up.
