❝ i'll be getting over you
my whole life. ❞
- 𝐋𝐀𝐁𝐘𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐓𝐇, taylor swift.

THE NEXT DAY, MADISON woke up with a pounding headache, but she pushed through and rolled out of bed, bright and early at 7:22 a.m. she groaned looking at the bright screen of her phone. a group chat with her producer, jack, and taylor had sent messages a couple minutes earlier.

jack antonoff
hey guys
wanna meet today at the
studio and finish up some
songs?

taylor 🩵
definitely! i can be ready in
15

jack antonoff
great!
i'm gonna assume mads
is still asleep?

taylor 🩵
oh of course
no chance she's waking
up before 7:30
Jack read at 7:01a.m.

madison 🖤
it's 7:23 bitches
guess who's awake

taylor 🩵
wow it's a miracle
get your ass ready and
meet us at the studio
i'm already on the way

jack antonoff
me too

madison 🖤
be there soon

madison quickly showered and did her makeup before changing into a black nike hoodie and a pair of leggings. she brushed her hair into a basic ponytail, deciding she would need a hat to avoid paparazzi.

speaking of hats, she threw on the first one she could find. it just so happened to be an old one direction hat she got while tagging along on tour. she smiled to herself before putting it on, then she was reminded to text amelia.

she grabbed a random pair of socks and started pulling them out of each other while walking back over to her phone on her beside table. madison slipped the socks on then searched her contacts list for "meli."

her finger hesitated over the send button after writing out a quick message. then ultimately adding more anxiously.

madison.
hey meli it's mads

i don't know why it's been
so long since i've reached
out. but i wanna see you soon.

text me soon 🖤.

madison hit send on all three messages, then set her phone face down. she couldn't sit and wait for an answer. she was the reason they hadn't talked, she reminded herself over and over.

after slipping on her nike tennis shoes, madison grabbed her everyday purse, already filled with her regular belongings and songwriting book.

and then she was off the to the studio. the walk was short, making her just barely earlier than her original time. upon entering the building, taylor and jack were both waiting in the lobby.

"one minute early!" madison exclaimed.

taylor and jack let out small laughs while standing from their seats and approaching her. "this is monumental. i feel like a proud mother." taylor joked, placing a hand over her heart.

madison playfully rolled her eyes as they all walked up to the studio room. the three all walked into the usual studio and set down their things. madison was quick to sink into the black couch against the wall.

taylor smirked to herself. "going back to sleep already?" she asked, teasing. madison shot taylor a playful glare with one eye open. "you know you want to."

"no, i don't. i'm here to make music. so, let's make music." she said, sitting up straight ans reaching for the notebook set on the small table.

jack and taylor shared a slight look of worry. "have anything in mind?" jack asked. for the past couple of weeks, they've met at the studio and ended up writing for taylor instead.

madison couldn't muster up anything. no rhythms, no beats, no lyrics, barely even words. her mind always seemed to be elsewhere. her mind was on him.

when she used to write, he was there with her. or at least someone from the band. now she's on her own.

the brunette shook her head reluctantly. "i'm.. yeah, no. i have nothing." she said, running her fingers through her hair, slightly tugging out of annoyance.

taylor let out a small sigh. "mads, we've let you sulk for long enough." she said gently, but also.. stern? madison was slightly surprised.

jack looked back and forth between the two girls. "what-"

"pick up the pen and write down whatever words are going through your head. i don't care if none of it makes sense. put your feelings to the page." taylor almost demanded. "please." she added shortly at the end.

madison gulped nervously. "okay." she said. she nervously picked up a random pen and simultaneously flipped to an empty page of the book in her lap.

taylor and jack waited anxiously while madison stared at the blank page. at first, she was just writing like it was a diary.

this is weird. what kind of method is this? thinking. thinking. i can't think. nothing is coming to my head. i have no choice in this. i've got work to do.

she suddenly paused. taylor and jack held their breaths, seeing she had written. neither dared to speak a word. madison wrote again, skipping a line to start something new.

i had no choice in the matter.
why would i? it's only the death
of me.

the quick action of her hand suprised herself. she had finally written a lyric. it wasn't much of anything, but in her head, it all made sense. she tapped a slow beat on the paper with the side of the pen. tap. pause. tap. pause. tap.

"i think i have an idea." she said, smiling as she looked up to the two watching her intently. they let out their breaths being held in and showed relief on their faces.

any guesses on what song she's writing?
