Zombie Run
27th march 2018 – Diary - entry - Dan - 16 – years - old
My name is Daniel Walson "I can't believe it has come to this! Everything, everybody around me, all dead! It's like a scene from a horror movie, except for the fact that this is REAL! Running for my life, don't know how many more weeks I can do this for, this may be my finale entry so, goodbye, now I have to run!"
Before
Class is finally over, I feel a strange feeling inside me, that someone is watching me. Wondering if I can afford to look back to see, without raising suspicion, a firm hand grasps my shoulder, "So Dan, what ya wanna practice taday mate?" I turn around and notice the long scraggy brown hair and the creepily, happy smile discovering that the voice from behind me is none other than my friend Jacob. Behind him stood everyone else from my parkour group. I reply with "How about we learn sommin different? How about... we learn the move that won Jessie La Flair a title in the Red-Bull Art of Motion championships in 2014, it's called 'the eclipse'."
The day it happened
Just like any other school day, I go to school, do my work and practice parkour in the breaks. "C-mon Con, twist your hips a little more on that spin vault, Jacob, try to get a stronger push off from the ground into the wall, don't rely too much on the wall itself so much", "Nice lazy vault to drop, Ji, I'm busy working on the technique of th..." We hear a high pitched scream coming from the direction of the oval. Thinking that it could be someone just mucking around, or, someone has been scared by something! "Let's go down and have a look, just in case" I suggest curiously. We run down to the oval, doing simple flows as we go, to get us there in less time than everyone else who is also going towards the sound on the oval. Wait, this is a different voice now, it's lower than the first one. It is a boy's voice! In total shock, we run, we run like the devil is chasing us, constantly gaining speed, more screams, I can't believe what I'm hearing, I'm not sure I even wanna find out what is causing the screams, but then I see it, see them, I slow down instantly, not believing my own eyes, the're.... Zombies!
"Everyone to the activity centre!" I scream at the top of my voice, I see a shadow limping towards me in the corner of my eye, in recognition of what it is, I crouch down, spring into a jump while I swing my arm around in a 180degree motion and punch the zombie in its neck, flicking it into the ground, I turn and look at the damage I just dealt, but as I twist my head around, I see that the zombie is gone!, I see a flash of black blood and then blackness...
I awaken with a flash of bright orange evening light. I see an unfamiliar character in front of me, all I can make out of this vision was that she had long jet black hair and was quite short. I see a zombie come up behind her. I try to yell out but for some reason, no sound is coming from my mouth, Suddenly she does some sort of backflip-takedown and the zombie falls back DEAD, I blink slowly, now I'm seeing her throwing the body off something. Then I black out, again...
The next morning
I awaken with the fresh light of an early morning, feeling the silent wind on my face, hearing the songs of the morning birds. I open my eyes slowly, I look around thinking everything looked normal, Wait! I look again and, realise that I am in the activity centre, with at least one hundred people, remembering what happened yesterday. I stretch and sat up. There is someone on the stage, who is that, it can't be, can it? YES! Yes it is! It's my old friend Chris. Chris was a black belt in jiu-jitsu, a red belt in Taekwon-Do and has an undying love for parkour, almost as much as myself! The last time I saw him was in Primary school, he was such a boss of a character, so eventually we came to call him Crisis.
"Hey, Crisis, you remember me mate?" I questioned, hearing the reply of "Of course mate, how can I forget?" We greet each other with a firm handshake, "So, Crisis," I start with "do you have any idea about why these zom...." "ZOMBIES" shouted a random voice, "Why don't I ever get a BREAK!" I scream in my head.
I run towards the voice. "Heads up" Out of nowhere Crisis, throws me a poll with a hook on the end, a decent weapon, for now. "Let's see if these zombies will still be 'undead' after we take of their heads" encouraged Crisis. Without so much as the sound of a footstep, a small figure floats across the floor next to me. It was the same girl from yesterday evening. In spite of the awe in my mind of her absolutely amazing silent movement I concentrate on the task at hand. "Vex" said Crisis handing the girl a sharpened poll.
Waiting there for the right moment to drop from our hiding spot on the balcony of the building, Vex gave the signal to strike. In in a swift action we drop down taking out as many zombies as we can silently. I run at the now alert zombies, embedding it deeply into the zombie's cheek bone, with an almost squishing sound. I turn my head and swing my shoulders around with the same force that gives you the momentum to do a forwards bicycle kick, piercing the end of the poll straight though the stomach of the zombie. It groans. It drops.
I see that Crisis and Vex are just finishing off their horde of zombies, looking at them I realise that this apocalypse might not be the end of the world after all, In fact, I think that this will be the beginning of an evolution.
