Chapter 2: The Second Meeting

Days passed, and Lily couldn't stop thinking about him. She kept replaying their brief interaction in her head—his smile, the way his eyes seemed to hold a thousand secrets. But life had a way of pulling her back to reality. Between working late shifts and studying for her finals, she didn’t have much time to dwell on the mystery of the stranger.

Until one evening, as the weather turned colder, she saw him again.

This time, it wasn’t in the rain, but in the dimly lit café where she worked. Lily was wiping down the counter when he walked in. His presence seemed to command the room, though he barely looked up as he made his way to the counter.

"I’ll have the usual," he said, his voice low, smooth.

Lily raised an eyebrow, recognizing the quiet confidence in his tone. “The usual?”

He glanced at her, a slight smirk pulling at his lips. “I come here every night.”

It was true. Lily realized he had been a regular at the café, always arriving just as the evening crowd began to thin, sitting in the corner booth with a book, his face partially hidden by the shadows. It had taken her this long to notice, but now, she couldn’t seem to look away.

“You’ve been coming here for months,” she remarked, pouring him a cup of coffee. “And you never once said hi.”

“Guess I never had a reason to,” he replied, his eyes meeting hers again. The air between them was thick with unspoken words.

And just like that, they found themselves standing on the precipice of something neither one could quite explain. The conversation faltered, but there was something there—something undeniable.
