After the whirlwind of events at the birthday party, Melisande—or better say— Eunji finds herself lying on her bed in her bedroom, still reeling from the surprise appearance of her newfound sister and the gifts she received.
As she lies there, her thoughts and feelings are a chaotic mix of joy, confusion, and a hint of trepidation. Eunji starts to reflect on the dramatic changes in her life and wonders about the future.
Melisande's bedroom is filled with soft pastels and delicate lace, creating a charming and girlish atmosphere. The walls are pale blue and purple, adorned with framed butterflies and flowers. The windows are swathed in long, frilly curtains in a paler shade of pink.
The furniture is all made of fine wood, with intricate carvings and a glossy finish that shines in the light, giving the spacious room a light and airy feel.
The center of the room is dominated by a large four-poster bed, its canopy draped in soft lace and adorned with bows in the same pastel tones as the rest of the room, and the pillows and blankets are of soft material.
The dresser is topped with a row of cute porcelain figurines, and a dressing table holds a collection of ribbons and pretty trinkets. On either side of the bed are bedside tables with drawers, and a large wardrobe stands against one wall. There are also several dolls and toys neatly placed on shelves along the walls.
Melisande—the original one— her heart still bursting with happiness from the gift Aveline gave her, holds the doll in her arms and adores it. She can't help but smile, a rare joyous expression for her usual shy self.
Meanwhile, within the depths of Melisande's mind, Eunji is lost in thought. She reflects on the events that occurred, her mind swirling with a mixture of surprise, confusion, and mild frustration.
Melisande, noticing the change in Eunji's demeanor, sets the doll aside and looks at her with concern.
‹‹ Eunji, is something the matter? ››— Melisande asks softly, her pretty eyebrows furrowing in confusion—‹‹ You seem upset about something. What are you worrying about? ››
Eunji pauses, then hums thoughtfully before replying to Melisande.
‹‹ It's just... I don't know if we can trust Aveline or not. ››—she says, her voice low and uncertain—‹‹ I mean, she seems nice and all, and what she did for you with the doll and all that, but I just feel uneasy about her. Like there's something she's not telling us... ››
Eunji, reminded of the content of the novel, feels a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach. As much as she doesn't want to believe it, the possibility of Melisande's death by Aveline's hand gnaws at her mind.
She knows that the plot of the novel has been drastically changed now, but she also knows that some elements could still hold true, no matter how reluctant she is to accept it.
‹‹ I don't want to believe it. ››—Eunji murmurs to herself—‹‹ but I can't ignore the possibility that Aveline is dangerous... ››
Eunji is acutely aware that the events of the novel have been greatly altered due to Aveline's involvement and her own actions during the birthday party.
She knows that the future she remembered from the novel is no longer set in stone, and anything could happen at this point. The uncertainty both excites and scares her, leaving her uncertain of what the future holds for Melisande and herself.
‹‹ The future is now up in the air. ››—Eunji thinks—‹‹ and it's all because of us. ››
Melisande looked at Eunji again, deducing that the stranger was so deep in thought that she did not notice her.
