"Can you give me their phone numbers?"

"What?" I turned my head to my sister, Harper, who was sprawled starfish across the surface of my bed.

"I said," She glanced at me before sitting up, crossing her legs and balancing her elbows off her knees, chin rested against her interlocked fingers. "Can you give me their phone numbers? The bands’?"

"No, Harper."

"Why not?" Her face crinkled in disgust.

"They’re all older than me. Not happening." I roll my eyes at her, unplugging my phone from the charger and setting both it and the charger in my backpack.

"Scarlett!" I faintly heard from downstairs.

"Come on," Harper groaned, throwing herself back so her head hit the pillows. "Lighten up a little."

"Come back to me when you’re 18." I say over my shoulder, the calling of my name getting closer as I threw the backpack over my shoulders, my suitcase already downstairs. I felt something brush against my leg, and looked down to see none other than my bright white kitten we rescued last year. Mum got Bea for Harper, but instead she resided in my room most of the time since everyone else in the house rarely paid her any attention. I kneeled down, letting her walk around me seeking attention.

For the next 7 months, I'm leaving to go away on a tour with Forever Winter- some band I had rarely heard of until recently. My dad's a bodyguard for them, and felt bad for not being around for the last 18 years, so he contacted my mum asking if I wanted to go on the tour with them. Without even consulting me, she happily replied saying I'd go.

"You’re so-" Harper started, before my bedroom door swung open and Mum stood in the doorway.

"Come on. Plans changed and your dad needs you to head over now." She stands impatiently, arms crossed as she looks down at me.

I bring myself to my feet, the cat having jumped away from the sudden slam of the door against the wall.
"Did something happen?"

"I don’t know, all I heard was that he'll need you over at his hotel now." She whipped around immediately, already walking through the hallway and down the stairs. I start walking to keep up, waving a bye to Harper as she retreated to her bedroom.

Mum rushed to the door and out to the driveway, almost as if she was counting down the seconds till she was no longer responsible for me. She already had the car started and was in the driver's seat, hands on the wheel as I fumbled with the handle on my suitcase in the hall. She tapped her fore finger impatiently against the wheel as she watched me exit the house.

I dropped my suitcase and backpack in the back seats, quickly making my way to the passenger seat. Mum backed out of the driveway as soon as I was in the car, and I glanced up at my bedroom window to see Bea looking down at me and watching as the car drove away.

"Who even is this band?" I heard Mum ask, driving faster than she needed to.

"I don't know a lot about them. Harper really likes them, though."

"Just stay with your dad. I'd rather you be with him than them." Her monotone voice went stern.

"Dad's going to be around them most of the time anyway. He's-"

"Yeah, I know. Body guard or something. Just watch out, alright? Only things I've ever heard about them were negative."

Mum went quiet, not speaking until we arrived at the hotel 10 minutes later. She pulled into a parking spot near the exit, eager to leave.
