Starla's POV-

I sat alone on a bench, watching as the colorful autumn leaves fell. I put out my hand, one of them landing on my hand gently as a feather. I closed my hand with the leaf in my palm and watched with satisfaction as it crunched between my fingers. It was dark and cloudy outside, and looked like it was about to rain. The perfect weather to me. There weren't very many people around, aside from a few minimalist white moms giving me weird looks. I'm used to it by now.

"Excuse me?" I suddenly heard a small, sweet voice. It was high-pitched and bubbly. I looked up to see a girl with curly, red hair, and milk chocolate colored skin. Her wide, soft eyes were hazel. Her cheeks were rosy and decorated with freckles, and she wore light pink lipgloss on her plump, extremely kissable lips. She wore a lot of pink, and looked around my age.

"Can I sit here?" She asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, yeah. Of course." I replied, scooting over a bit to give her more room. She smiled and thanked me before sitting down. She had good posture and her hands were in her lap. She seemed very dainty and feminine. I knew that I'd seen her around my school before, but she wasn't in my classes. She was definitely a junior, too. 'Maybe she takes advanced classes,' I thought. Or maybe it just so happened that we weren't in the same classes.

After a few minutes of silence and me staring at her, she spoke up again. "You go to AutumnVille High School(NOT A REAL PLACE 😓😓), right?" She asked. I nodded.

"Yeah. I'm a junior." I said quietly.

"Aw, it's a shame that we don't have any classes together!" She said, actually sounding genuine. I gave a small smile, and she responded with a cheery grin.

Suddenly, a small butterfly fluttered by. The girl's eyes lit up and she stuck out her finger. The bright blue butterfly landed on her pointer finger. She giggled softly. I just stared.

She looked over to me, moving the butterfly on her hand closer to me.

"Do you want to hold it?" She asked softly. My eyes widened a bit as a looked in between the butterfly and the girl. I'd never actually seen a butterfly land on someone's hand in person, and I'd never held one either. "Yeah.." I said as I put out my hand.

The butterfly flew over from her hand onto mine. I smiled softly, a quiet chuckle escaping my lips. The girl giggled excitedly. "I think it likes you!" She said giddily. I could already tell that she was the opposite of me. She seemed bubbly and happy, not to mention she was always smiling.

I was too focused on the butterfly to notice someone else approaching us.

"Pearl! I've been looking everywhere for you!" A voice called out. I looked up to see another girl. She was tanned and blonde, I figured that it was bleached. She had greenish-gray eyes. Her style was simple, she usually wore a solid colored shirt with white or gray sweatpants. I knew her. She was in my math class, and her name was Julia. I should've known that she'd be friends with pretty much everybody.

Julia gave me a judgmental look. "Pearl, why are you hanging out with this freak?" Julia asked the girl sitting next to me, who I assumed was Pearl. Julia wasn't even trying to keep her voice down. It was like she wanted me to punch her in the face.

"She's not a freak, Julia." Pearl's cheery voice sounded stern. She sighed and decided to change the subject. "Let's just go get ramen." She said, standing up. Julia let out a scoff and rolled her eyes before walking off. Pearl looked back at me one last time.

"Don't forget about this moment, Starla." Pearl giggled and then ran off with Julia.

I stared in shock as she disappeared into the fog. How did she know my name? I never told her... I'd never even talked to her. And yet, I felt like I knew her.
