Kai's POV
After Fyang and Kanata claimed their trophies and awards for winning first place in the kayak competition, they immediately came over to us, visibly worried.
Kolette and Therese had only watched the event, while the four of us—me, Rain, Fyang, and Kanata—were the only ones who joined the competition.
"Malamang di ka nakapag-focus, bakit kasi pinilit mo pang sumali? Andami mo pa namang nainom kagabi" Kolette scolded me, though her face still showed concern.
"Siguro naman natuto ka na, girl" She continued.
"How about you, Rain? Are you okay?" Sabi ni Therese.
Wait, did she just touch Rain's face? With that intense concern?
For a moment, I felt a sharp tug in my chest—was that jealousy? No, it couldn't be. What the hell?
"Yeah, I'm fine" Rain answered, giving me a reassuring smile.
"Okay, tara na, let's head back to the house and change" Fyang said, trying to shift the mood.
"By the way, congrats girls" Rain said to Fyang and Kanata.
Both of them thanked her, but there was still something in the air that felt... off
"That calls for another celebration tonight!" Fyang announced with enthusiasm.
"But no more alcohol for you, Montinola" Therese teased, raising an eyebrow at me.
"Yeah, yeah, whatever" I muttered back, my mind still not fully here.
6 PM
We were outdoor at Fyang's family rest house, gathered in front of the bonfire. The place was buzzing with food and drinks, all meticulously prepared by Fyang's staff.
But me? I was focused on the grilled food and soda—my body still sore from earlier. I couldn't shake off the ache in my muscles.
"Are you sure you're okay, Kai?" Rain asked, her voice full of concern.
"Does your body hurt from earlier?Sabi ko naman kasi sayo to stretch with me, and now look, you're in pain. Gusto mo ba masahiin na kita?"
"No!" I blurted out a little too quickly, earning the attention of our friends.
"I—I mean, no thanks, I'm fine" I corrected, trying to brush it off.
"By the way, Kai, about the gayuma, what do you think? Did it work? Nahulog ka na ba kay Rain?" Kolette teased, her tone light and playful.
"Ha ha, very funny" Rain responded sarcastically, rolling her eyes.
"Can we at least let Kai speak, please?" Fyang interrupted, giving the two of them an exasperated look.
Rain and Kolette both groaned in frustration, but there was something warm in their gestures, a kind of playful familiarity.
"Come on, Kai," Therese urged,
"for the sake of peace and quiet, can you confirm if Kanata's gayuma is the real deal? Is it true? Did it really work on you?"
"Of course not!" I answered, though my words were a little too quick, a little too defensive.
