If Only You Knew

CHAPTER FOUR

Khloe rushed around the school trying to find john, but she could not find him anywhere. John has always been a fast walker so he was able to vanish from any area like a magician. But after looking for another five frantic minutes a sense of relief washed over her as she finally found him. John was laying on the grass at the edge of the oval his gaze fixed to the sky looking at the clouds. Taking a deep breath she walked towards john.

"Is it ok for me to join you hun" said Khloe her voice so warm and cornering

John nodded, not speaking a word and not looking at her, which was Khloe way of knowing she could lay next to him. As Khloe settled onto the grass beside him, the distance between them seemed to melt away. Khloe turned around on the ground laying on her side and just kept her eyes on John. Though his gaze remained foxed on the sky, he could feel her eyes on him. There was a way that Khloe always looked at him that always made a connection that transcended words. John wanted to look back at her but the the events that happened this morning still loomed large. Then Khloe spoke breaking the ice.

"Do you feel any better, hun?" Her voice was soft, laced with concern that mirrored the depths of her eyes.

A sigh escaped John's lips, laden with the weight of his emotions.

"To be honest with you Khloe, I don't even know what I'm feeling anymore. I generally thought she was the one and i was hoping she felt the same way. I did expect to get rejected but not in the way she did it" he said

Khloe extended her arm so her fingers could reach his palm a gesture of comfort that resonated deeply. John felt her fingers intertwined with his and without hesitation he held her hand. With a slow turn john met her gaze while also laying on his side. Then when Khloe spoke her words carried a note of wisdom

"I don't wanna make your situation worse but in a away her response to you was a blessing in disguise" she Khloe

"How so" said john he said in confusion

"Well now you know not to waste your time with her and she showed her true colours and that she's not a nice person" said Khloe

Khloe's voice held a soothing quality, offering perspective in the face of heartache.John's eyes held a hint of vulnerability and was still trying to process what she said

"yeah but what she said to me has really messed me up Khloe, and I can't get her out of my mind it's like I've lost control over my mind and now all I can see and hear is her"

Khloe thought of ways to help her friend until an idea formed in her head a life line for John's struggling heart.

"Maybe try and think about something else doing that might help you stop thinking about her" said Khloe
"Ok, well like what" john said who was willing to try anything to get Emily out of his head

Khloe thought about it and then an answer came into her head

"I know what don't you think about me and Brandon. Remember the friendship and the bond that we all share. We've stood by you through thick and thin, and so have you and we always will" she said

John was determined to get Emily and hurtful comments out of his mind so he closed his eyes and just thought about his two best friends in the whole world. He thought about all the great times they've had as friends all the adventures they had, all the memories together and after a while Emily and her mean comments faded away and were replaced with visions of Brandon and Khloe echos of there voice making John feel safe. ten seconds John opened his eyes, and a smile slowly tugged at the corner of his lips.

"Hey you were right it worked" John's voice carried a note of incredulity

Khloe's smile was in infectious, the satisfaction knowing she helped her friend made her feel good inside
