Since I was a little girl, violence was all I knew.
From the berating yells of my parents, to the squeals of glass crashing against cold concrete. Anger had surrounded me, but it hadn't engulfed me. Not yet at least.
I couldn't understand the anger then, I was blinded by most things. Just as any child would be, because when I saw my parents, I saw my providers. I didn't notice the abuse and I barely recognised the harm they did.
I was oblivious as to why my father had taught me how to walk on glass shards without even gasping, I was oblivious as to why my mother had taught me how to drown out the scent of poison with perfume.
What I was most oblivious to was why my parents took me to an underground fighting ring, and why they kneeled in front of me as a large man handed me a gun.
"Choose" He huffed with no remorse. I look around the room, some people are staring at me with manic eyes, some smile while others stare at me with pity. as I turn my head further, I meet the eyes of a few women who look away immediately out of guilt.
"I-I don't understand" I whisper, just loud enough for the man to hear me. Tears well up into my eyes as he lowers his mouth next to my ear.
"Shoot one, or I shoot both" He instructs, the tone in his voice seething with rage.
I turn to look at the man, his face is cold and he looks almost inhumane. He steps forward and I fall back.
"Please, I beg you, please sir. D-don't kill my parents, please" I sob.
He rips the gun from my grip, and stares down at me. He looks as though he's about to shoot me, but changes his mind and shoots both of my parents between the eyes within two seconds.
I let out a blood-curdling scream as I realise what he had done. Anger had finally consumed me, as I scream louder. Two people drop dead while at least ten collapse.
This was the day I realised my purpose. My goal.
