Lin Aoxue felt extremely embarrassed, but with the alcohol taking effect, waves of dizziness made her too weak to argue with Yunyan's arrangements. She could only be helped to her guest room by a young maid.
The young maid assisted Lin Aoxue as she lay down on the bed. Her body burned uncomfortably, her head heavy, her eyelids so heavy she could barely keep them open. She felt as though she could fall asleep the moment her head touched the pillow.
The young maid, following Yunyan's orders to care for the guests at the Misty Rain Pavilion, went to fetch some water to wipe Lin Aoxue's face.
She wrung out a clean towel and noticed the wine on Lin Aoxue's face, her exposed cheek flushed red. If not for the ugly and rough mask covering the other side of her face, she would have looked quite beautiful.
Perhaps due to the drunkenness, Lin Aoxue lay with her eyes closed, her brow soft, and she didn't look nearly as terrifying as she did during the day.
The young maid bent closer, thinking it was inconvenient to remove the mask while it was still on her face, especially since she was asleep. She carefully leaned forward, intending to take off the mask on Lin Aoxue's face.
But as soon as her fingers touched the cold mask, Lin Aoxue suddenly woke up. She opened her eyes wide, her gaze sharp and filled with murderous intent, glaring at the maid in front of her and hissing:
"What are you doing?"
Her eyes were fierce, full of anger. The young maid, startled and terrified, quickly stood up and backed away. In her panic, her sleeve brushed against the basin of water by the bed.
With a loud crash, the water splashed everywhere.
But she didn't have time to worry about it. Kneeling in the dampness of the floor, she quickly bowed her head and begged:
"Please, military sir, forgive me!"
The young maid trembled uncontrollably, her slim shoulders shaking involuntarily, whether from the cold of the floor or from Lin Aoxue's imposing presence.
Yunyan had assigned some tasks to the servants in the Misty Rain Pavilion and hadn't gone far. Hearing the commotion in the room, she hurried over.
Seeing Lin Aoxue sitting angrily by the bed, while the young maid cowered on the floor, Yunyan furrowed her brows slightly and reprimanded the maid softly before waving her off to fetch some sober-up soup.
"This new maid doesn't understand the rules. Military sir, please forgive her."
Yunyan walked over to Lin Aoxue, noticing that Lin Aoxue had her eyes wide open and was sitting stiffly with a solemn expression. Though she looked serious, her eyes, which were usually sharp and bright, were now clouded with a faint mist. Her gaze was unfocused, clearly drunk.
Her cheeks were flushed, her breath deep and rapid, her mind hazy, only briefly coming back to clarity in the moment just before.
Yunyan leaned in closer to her, her face near Lin Aoxue's cheek, and whispered with a soft laugh:
"Shall I help you rest, military sir?"
Lin Aoxue's face was stiff, but she didn't respond. Her hands instinctively clutched at her clothing, looking as if she was trying to ward off some kind of harm.
Seeing her like this, Yunyan couldn't help but laugh, her eyes curving into a smile. Lin Aoxue looked nothing like the fierce woman who had single-handedly defeated eight strong men in the Misty Rain Pavilion just days before. It was amusing to see this side of her when drunk.
