Hao sat on the edge of his couch, staring at the phone in his trembling hands. The police had taken his statement earlier that morning, promising to investigate the stalking and threats. Yet, despite their assurances, he felt no safer. His mind replayed the moment he found the note on his door, the haunting familiarity of Jeonghyeon's handwriting.
Across from him, Hanbin paced, his jaw tight and his hands clenched into fists. "They should've done more," he muttered. "A warning isn't enough. What if he" Hanbin stopped himself, not wanting to finish the thought. Instead, he turned to Hao, his expression softening. "You're staying with me for now. No arguments."
Hao hesitated. "I don't want to drag you into this any more than I already have."
Hanbin crossed the room, crouching in front of him. "Hey," he said, taking Hao's hands in his own. "You're not dragging me into anything. I want to be here for you. And I'm not letting you face this alone."
The sincerity in Hanbin's voice made Hao's chest ache. He nodded, leaning forward until their foreheads touched. "Thank you," he whispered.
The following week, Hao moved into Hanbin's apartment. Hanbin insisted on driving him to and from work, and every evening, they spent time together cooking, talking, and trying to rebuild a sense of normalcy. Hanbin's presence was a comfort Hao didn't know he needed, and for the first time in a while, he felt like he could breathe again.
But Jeonghyeon wasn't done.
One night, Hanbin was returning home after running an errand when he spotted a figure standing outside his apartment building. He recognized Jeonghyeon instantly. The man hadn't changed much since high school his lean frame was tense, his posture rigid, and his dark eyes were fixed on the building's entrance.
Hanbin's blood boiled. He parked his car and approached slowly, his steps deliberate. "What do you think you're doing here?" he called out.
Jeonghyeon turned, startled, but quickly masked his surprise with a smirk. "Hanbin. Always playing the hero, huh?"
"I'm not playing," Hanbin said, his voice low and steady. He closed the distance between them, towering over Jeonghyeon. "This stops now. You don't contact him. You don't come near him. You don't even think about him. Got it?"
Jeonghyeon's smirk faltered, replaced by a flicker of fear. But he quickly regained his composure, narrowing his eyes. "You think you can just take him away from me? You don't know anything about us."
"I know enough," Hanbin snapped. "He doesn't want you in his life. You're not his 'everything.' You're his nightmare."
Jeonghyeon flinched, but his expression hardened. "This isn't over," he hissed, stepping back. "You'll see."
Hanbin watched as Jeonghyeon disappeared into the night, his jaw clenched tightly. When he returned to the apartment, he found Hao waiting anxiously in the living room.
"What's wrong?" Hao asked, noticing the tension in Hanbin's posture.
Hanbin hesitated for a moment, then sighed. "I saw him. Outside."
Hao's face paled. "Jeonghyeon? What... what did he say?"
"Nothing important. But he won't stop on his own." Hanbin sat beside Hao, pulling him close. "We'll figure this out. He's not going to scare you anymore."
The next day, Hanbin took matters into his own hands. He contacted an old friend from high school, Jisoo, who now worked as a private investigator. He explained the situation and asked for help gathering evidence to ensure Jeonghyeon couldn't harm Hao again.
Jisoo agreed, and within days, he uncovered a disturbing pattern. Jeonghyeon had been watching Hao's every move, leaving subtle signs of his presence to keep him on edge. But Jisoo also discovered something more alarming: Jeonghyeon had started digging into Hanbin's life as well.
When Hanbin heard this, his resolve hardened. He wouldn't let Jeonghyeon destroy what he and Hao had built.
That evening, as they sat together on the couch, Hanbin turned to Hao. "I need you to trust me," he said. "Whatever happens next, I'm going to protect you. But I need you to stay strong, okay?"
Hao nodded, his eyes shining with gratitude and fear. "I trust you, Hanbin. I just... I want this to end."
"It will," Hanbin promised, determination burning in his eyes. "I'll make sure of it."
But as the shadows of Jeonghyeon's obsession grew darker, Hanbin knew that ending this would take more than words. It was time to confront the past head-on and ensure that Jeonghyeon would never have the chance to hurt Hao again.
The next evening, Hao sat at Hanbin's apartment, flipping through an old photo album Hanbin had dug out to cheer him up. The pictures of high school days brought bittersweet memories, but they also reminded Hao of how far he had come.
Hanbin stepped into the room, his phone in hand, his face grim. "Jisoo just called," he said. "Jeonghyeon's been hanging around your old workplace. He's not giving up."
Hao's heart sank, his fingers tightening on the edge of the album. "Why can't he just leave me alone?"
Hanbin sat beside him, wrapping an arm around Hao's shoulders. "He won't, because he thinks he still has control. But we're going to change that."
"What do you mean?" Hao asked, his voice shaky.
Hanbin hesitated, then said firmly, "We're going to confront him. Together. With Jisoo's help, we'll make sure this stops for good. No more running. No more hiding."
Hao's chest tightened at the thought, but he nodded. "I don't want to be afraid anymore."
Hanbin kissed his temple, his voice steady. "You won't have to be. I'm with you."
Little did they know, Jeonghyeon was already planning his next move one that could put everything they'd built in jeopardy. The confrontation they dreaded was closer than either of them realized.
