The autumn leaves flew in the wind, the people in the town of Oakville doing their usual jobs and I sat there doing nothing sitting in my house watching the neighbours kid kick a ball around, waiting for my boyfriend to pick me up for our 1 month Anniversary.
"Mom, Kayden is almost here "I yell out the living room towards the kitchen
"Okay hun wait where are you guys going again?" Mom asks with a questioning tone while walking towards the living room.
"Well we're supposed to go to this cabin his family owns!"
"That sounds fun sweetie but..you be careful....you know what happened with the Mathews family ..." she says with a concerned expression written on her face
"I don't recall mom,what happened"
"The mathews family...they went for a trip....but they never made it, they went down the exact road you will be going down....its been 1 year since they went missing."
"Trust me mom if anything goes wrong...you will be the first I call!" I quickly go in for a hug making sure I feel her warmth before I leave for the weekend. We both get startled when we hear a knocking on the door, but we quickly get up and open the door to see my boyfriend.
"Hey Kayden!" I quickly lunge in for a kiss
My mom never cared about me being gay, but my dad he was never okay with it he tried to change me multiple times before my mom kicked him out. Kaiden breaks the kiss, reaching into his pocket to give me a gift.
"Here..for our anniversary!" He hands me a brown square gift box the size of my hand with a darker brown ribbon.
"Thank you, what's inside?"
"That's for you to find out...in the car tho because we have a long trip" he says while grinning
I turn to my mother, giving her one last out before leaving and entering Kaiden's car.
"So what's in this box..." I swiftly take off the ribbon and open this mystery gift, inside contains an almost rustic like watch.
"Wow...I love it" I turn my head towards him
"Thank you Kaiden!" I say with a smile while putting it on
"Of course baby, you know that was my dad's watch before he....passed"
Oh Kaiden you don't have to give me such a precious gift....you should keep it really!" I say while about to take it off
"No...it's for you to remember me whenever I'm gone" Kaiden says with a slight smirk on his face but that smirk quickly fades when he sees a fallen tree in the middle of the road.
