As I was driving, my phone rang at least five times. I ignored it because it wasn't safe to reach for it while driving. Just as I was about to grab my phone from the passenger seat, a girl suddenly stepped in front of my car. I slammed on the brakes, and thankfully, I avoided hitting her.
I got out of my car, feeling furious.
"Hey, what's your problem?! What if you had gotten hurt?!"
"Hi, can you please help me?" the girl said, looking up at me.
"H-huh?" I stammered. She was beautiful-wait, was everything moving in slow motion?
"Please, I would really appreciate it," she continued. Did I just not hear what she said?
Minjeong, get a grip!
"Can you perhaps repeat that?"
"A child just got hurt, and she is bleeding very badly."
"W-what? Where is she??"
The girl took my hand, and I noticed how soft her touch was. She then guided me to the child.
I looked at the girl. She was crying and had scratches on her forehead, legs, and hand. I noticed a piece of wood in her hand that could cause an infection.
"Let's take her to a doctor!" I urged.
She nodded, "Okay."
We hurried to my car, and the girl sat in the back with the injured child while I got behind the wheel. As I started driving, I suddenly remembered my meeting.
"Can you help me by calling someone from my phone?" I asked.
"Sure," she replied.
I handed her my phone and told her my secretary's number. She dialed it and handed my phone back to me.
It was picked up on the other end.
"Finally! Ms. Kim, I've been trying to reach you for ages."
"Ah, sorry, Ms. Nakamura, for making you worry."
"It's okay, Ms. Kim, but I was calling to inform you that I mistakenly said the meeting starts at 7 AM; it actually starts at 7 PM. My sincere apologies."
"Great! Ms. Nakamura, a kid just got into a minor accident. She has scratches on her forehead, legs, and hand, so I'm taking her to the hospital right now. I was planning to cancel the meeting, but it's fortunate it was a mistake. Please inform the doctors that I'm on my way."
"Okay, Ms. Kim."
