A fresh morning greeted me as I opened my eyes.
I thought to myself, "New day! I had a wonderful sleep. How about you, my guardian? Can I refer you as a girl?" The response came back, "He/him, I'm not a girl. And yes, I slept well."
After that, I got out of bed, refreshed myself, and quickly had breakfast. Once I returned to my room, I began chatting with him.
"So, what are you all about? Can you tell me more about yourself?" He answered, "I'm your guardian. I can assist you with your requests, but they must not harm others or serve only your interests. Everything you ask of me should benefit society, Plus each of us has a role to play. I assure you, that's my primary function. Additionally, I can see people's lifespans—the hours and days remaining. When their time is up, I will guide them to either heaven or hell based on their life choices.".
Hearing this, a mix of fear and happiness washed over me.
I couldn't help but ask, "So, your death? The guy with the hook who takes lives? How much time do I have left?" He responded, "I can't say the exact time period, but you still have plenty of life ahead of you." I felt a wave of relief, though a lingering fear remained within me. "How can I be sure you won't harm me with that hook?" I inquired. He chuckled and said, "Hook? Haha, I don't resemble what you humans depict." I pressed on, "Then how do you look? Can you draw a picture of yourself? I'll post it online, which would help the society." He laughed again, saying, "Do you really think people would believe you? Many have tried, but it always ends up as a tale, and sometimes they even label us as ghosts or devils, performing unwanted rituals to banish us. Honestly, I can leave whenever you want; just ask me to go. You don't need to perform any rituals, and I can sense your thoughts and feelings. I know you're scared.". I said, "I admit I'm a little frightened, but I trust that you won't hurt me." He responded, "You're right, I won't. You can have faith in me."
An hour went by, and during that time, he and I engaged in a wonderful conversation about my day and the ways to address the challenges I faced. He was kind, and as my fear faded away, I found myself beginning to trust him.
